Ahh young Blue, I have meditated deeply on your story as you wished, and it doesn't quite add up.

She was holding two apples in both hands?
That's four apples.

Why didn't she take bites out of the other two?
Maybe she wasn't such a nice little girl.
Maybe she found a worm in the second apple, so she gave that one to her mother?

( What is worse than biting an apple and finding a worm?
Biting an apple and finding 1/2 a worm )

And how could a LITTLE girl hold 2 BIG apples in each hand?
Maybe she wasn't what she seemed?
Maybe the mother would later be known as Sleeping Beauty?
And the little girl was not one of her 15 children, but the wicked witch in disguise?

Maybe the "face freeze" was a premonition of the effect of the poison on her side of the apple?

Ahh little Blue, Jedi fighter are you now, but young and impetuous are you.
One day weaken will dogfighting skills as from you fades the force.
A "Sir" Jedi you will be, and then indeed you will "always delay judgement. Give others the privilege to explain themselves. What you see may not be the reality. Never conclude for others."
The ghosts of hidden meanings you will behind every story see, a cynic you will become
The conspiracy theories will true to you be. (Did the Americans really go to the moon? Who shot JFK?)

I have "grown" the story as you asked. ;) :P :P
Maybe others will grow it further.....

Exact the point, you might not know it but u answered ur own question, Her hands are too small to hold two apples in each that's why it said she was holding two of them in both ands, kinda like cuping ur hands to drink water.

Ahh young Nine ball, spoil you all the fun in life? Or just that of an old and wrinkled Jedi, past his time, idling away his remaining hours with frivolity? :P

Gannet, you need to read closer, what he actually said was "A lovely little girl was holding two apples with both hands.", not two apples in both hands, so that is only two apples not four.

Eagle and RT, you come from the same nest as Nineball? ;)

:)
If you were right, it would have said "with both hands she held two apples", that would be two apples
If I was right, it would have said "in each hand she held two apples", that would be four apples
As it is written, it is ambiguous.
(I am a school teacher, I know my apples!) B)

I like the picture I get of a very small girl needing to use both hands to hold two big apples, probably cradling them. It makes me think of H.C. Anderson's 'Little match girl", not as tragic but possibly of the same period. It's amazing how a written passage can create such different image depending on the reader's experiences. I read it "hearing" Vivek' s voice tell the story. Thanks Vivek!

Ok I give up! :S
Hands up.
I surrender.

You've all killed it.
Stamp stamp stamp !
Completely squashed.
It's gone flat.

Its an ex-joke. :(

The humour is dead and buried!

I'll play it straight.
Blue, it's a deep and meaningful story. Nice one. :cheer:

...but both apples had been laced with iocane powder, to which the little girl had spent her early years developing an immunity.
