I spend a lot of time doing research on planes, their history, aerodynamics, and playing DogFight of course. My Latest endeavor has me quite excited. I have decided to take this hobby one step further and will certainly do my best to keep you all posted as to the progress I make. Please anyone having any experience feel free to post up and comment....

That's a lot of work to build a dogfighters simulator!

It immediately reminded me of an old guy I knew who had flown Wellingtons in WW2.
He got into building RC model aeroplanes late in life. Got hooked on it badly.
Built a beautiful 3ft plane, but when he came to fly it he just couldn't get the hang of the thumb control joysticks.

So he built a simulator to match the Wellies he had flown in his youth. No where near as fancy as yours, but life sized joystick connected up to the RC controller and worked fine.

Took it out to the RC airfield, young guys tested it for him, worked fine.
So he has a go. Works! He can fly again.
Until he turns the plane around to come back towards him, and now left is right and right is left.
Down he goes, Crash.
Gave up the hobby in disgust.

True story.
You just can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Looks a bit big for a flight simulator, and a bit thin to ever get airborne......but well, it's the things that dreams are made of!

With the Occulus Rift it's gonna be a heck of an experience.

Just took a virtual tour on the website of the Ohio National US Airforce Museum.

Should we start a topic for posting historic background stuff like this?
