Dognamitt,

Yes, I'm a little on the fence about this. It sort of seems like he tanked the airplane going in to get the flag, and then once again after he got the flag, if he did it more than that, then I would definitely tag him for tank spawn killing.

As long as the flag is behind the runway your gonna get that. It seems he wanted the flag, which he got, so his intentions weren't only to kill planes at spawn point. But seems to me it was to kill them at spawn point until he got the other thing done that's on his mind. Which was move the flag..

I think I agree with Casey on this one. Also in a capture the flag game the "rule book" needs to be thrown out, this is a new format to game play. Droppers, sneaking, and sadly tank spawn killing don't apply if one is actually going for the flag. This is just my opinion however and I'm sure I might feel differently (at the time) if on the losing side, and this only applies to "capture the flag" games when you are really after the flag.

It just seems like that in a CTF game, a tank on the runway shooting planes will not progress towards the flag because the planes that he is shooting will continue to re-spawn. Therefore, he can't make it to the flag.
Or maybe tank spawn killing for a short time will enable your team mates to fly in to get the flag.
I don't know - thinking out loud here.

I will admit the dynamic in CTF is different and there are things that are accepted that normally aren't in the other games, with regards to etiquette.
Recently I was in a CTF game against Guardian where he flew in, got the flag, was soon shot down, bailed out, got in a tank, grabbed the flag that he dropped, was destroyed in his tank, and was able to retain the flag right there in his tank.

I don't have a tank, so I didn't know this was possible. But, it was effective and he did a great job while his team was able to mass.

I've been in ctf games where a red tank will sit on the runway, ready to blast any blue that tries to get the flag. I've also been in ctf (and other) games where a player will sit on the runway blasting spawners for the points. From what I can see, +1 picked up the flag while shooting planes with his tank. If he stayed there, flag waving out his adze, and shooting spawners with his tank, then yeah, that's BS. What we don't know, is did he keep moving on or stay? That would decide if he's an sk'er or not. If he didn't stick around and kept moving, then I would think that shooting planes with a tank is no different than shooting planes with another plane, since that is how this particular game is designed.

Just my two cents

Yea this is a big problem for me too, had a ctf game last week, I was brought down on enemies territory, I landed right behind the runway and went into tank, the flag was already in the middle of the field and not behind me, so in my effort to try to drive fast to the flags new location, I got stuck near the runway road, and I got reds shooting at me at that, so in my frantic effort to get unstuck, my big ol thing hit the fire button by mistake and I hit this dude, now I usually always apologize after something I do by accident but like I said, I'm on enemy territory and apologizy can wait, I was eventually destroyed and this dude opus, was on my arse the whole game saying I was tank spawkilling, I apologized to the player I shot but this dude even went on far enough to pm me about it, So their should be a rule on this new game.

Im on the fence about this as well. In my opinion if you are at the base with a tank it is bad tactics to pick up the flag... it will be almost impossible to escape with it in a tank. A plane is much faster and therefore more likely to get away. Not that I haven't done it, but if you are hiding with the flag near a building and get killed the flag becomes very difficult to retrieve, so it is a bad idea.

From the screen shot it looks like +1 got the flag and shot someone on the runway in the tank.... I'm not convinced that makes him a tank spawnkiller, just a competitor.

For the record, I have been in a tank at the flag before and resisted the temptation to shoot reds as they spawned. I didn't get away alive.

That's my .02 anyway

Personally I hate spawnkilling, and I don't think it's wrong to do it at anytime.
Supporting Argument.
1)If you can't escape with it why spawnkill to get it?
2)He was practically parallel with the second building on the right of the runway so he could have just gone around
3)Spawnkilling is stupid even in ctf, why no rules?, are you saying i can just spawnkill in planes too just so people can get the flag?
4) There are more effective ways such as camping to suppress the enemy, so again why spawnkill?

All good points, but what if you are in a plane and coming in to get the flag? Do you not lay as much lead down as you can so you can get to it? Once you get the flag, do you not kill anything standing in your way?

I guess it's a moral issue. Personally, if I got the flag in a tank I'd start hauling out and forget the planes. If no friendlies were in the skies, my point would be to get the flag somewhere were it was easier to pick up. I just don't think it could be considered spawn killing if you get the flag and shoot a couple on your way out. If he sat there, then yes, definitely spawn killing.

I do not lay as much lead down as possible, i go for the objective, obtain it, and get the hell outta there!
I run to my team which is hopefully right behind me. If not I just camp the reds till they stay on the ground.

The real story by +1.
Was I in a tank. Yes. While driving to flag I hit the plane that was between me and the flag. That would be our resident cry baby. I grabbed the flag and drove away. Whim on the way out there was another plane that was stuck on the building. So I blew him up and in so doing did him a favor. He was stuck! Then while continuing on my way another plane was diving and firing on me. I got him too before be destroyed myself. My move left the flag out in front of thier base much easier to pick up. Me a spawn killer? No. Him a cry baby? Yes.

I'm just curious.. by saying "I hit the plane that was between me and the flag" did you mean you drove into him 'hit' or shot him with your tank 'hit'? and were you on or next to the runway when this occurred?

ok well Im on the fence on this as well ! I know what I do and don't do and don't like , I don't like it when you are on a runway and planes come in shotting at you to bomb, so what is the difference if the tank is trying to get the flag and shoots you as well ? justsaying my two cents
