Is there a one-shot kill?

I recently played a dogfight with/against a well known MORAF. We started shooting from long range as we approached each other. I got lucky and hit him and he went down.

He wrote “One hit kill! BS!” and promptly left.

So:

How many hits can you take before you go down? To me it seems most commonly 4 hits. When it first changed from 2 hits it seemed that it could be as few as 3 and as many as 5.

This is from nearly 3 months ago:

-A hit to a wing could be worth 1 point.
-A hit to the fusalege could be worth 2 points.
-A hit to the pilot or engine could be worth 3 points.
-A hit to the pilots head would be 6 points- (and disable the ability to get in the chute?)

I was actually already working on something like this :P
It made no sense before because the area was too small or the airplane shaking so much that it was pointless. Now you can actually aim to certain areas.

Can you get a lucky hit on the pilot for a one shot kill?

My experience is that sometimes you get lag hits (you're on the runway and hear a couple of pings), then you could already be 2-3 hits down towards your 4, then when you get in the air someone might take you down with a single hit.

Eagle is right but now you don't die with lag shots. May be he already got 3 shot or while taking off his plane is already smoking. And when you take long shot, the burst hit the other plane in one go.

It's lag of a special kind, the other guy registers four, you register one but go down in flames. Let's face it, this game is less than error free. Realism dictates a one shot kill should be achievable; head shot, through the block, or tracer igniting fuselage, but game versus reality are tough calls.

I hate the way other games that have a percentage meter, takes way to long at close range hammering away. I also hated the two shot kill, and the supposed four shot kill head on, when you fill up the chta screen with hits and before a kill registers you crash.

Sir McFate of the Clan NLR!

From the information Zup posted when he first introduced the different hit points on the planes, the one shot kill is definitely possible. That being, a clear shot to the pilots head. I haven't yet experienced it myself, but I have been told a few times by other players that I have killed them with one shot but it has always registered on my screen as three or four hits. From what I have experienced I have come to the conclusion that lag definitely has a part to play! ;)

Hey (GI) KK,

The trouble is that Zup never lined out his design. In the quotes on the first post, everything written in blue was by me. Zup just said that he'd been working on "something like" it. It was a few days later that the planes took more than two hits. At first it seemed like it could take anywhere from 2-5 hits. I never saw a one-hit-kill unless there was some lag involved.

I think it would be cool if a hit to the pilot would send him back to spawn point. No chute, no tank. Dead.
(That's what happened with the Red Barron, only he managed to land and shut down before dying.)

Maybe there will be more resolution in DF2.

I have come to the conclusion that there are no one hit kills. I think what it amounts to, is that you hit him so hard and so fast but he just went down and it looked I Think what it amounts to, is that you hit him so hard and so fast, that when he went down it only seemed like a one hit kill. I have experienced both ends of this, and it does happen. I think it's just a minor lag issue
