You start with one, when you upgrade you get one more. The most you can carry is two, but many players that can have two will drop one otherwise you fly way too slow, and can maneuver as well.

In some of my lesser planes I have two bombs, but for the top planes I don't. Not to mention $162,500 for the upgrade, it's not that important to me.

In the olden days you could bomb two hangArs with one bomb but an update made it where you cant do it anymore
I always took advantage of that  |

I almost always carry 2 bombs, I find for head on, the slower speed is traded off against a more stable gun platform. Also when you do get through, hitting 2 hangars is much better than just one.
When it comes to a turning fight, as long as I down the other guy on the first turn I'm fine. there are a few players that will always beat me, but they would beat be even if i didn't have any bombs.
