With what seems a nearly constant stream of new squad start-ups (let's call 'em soon-to-fail squads|AKA STF Squads),it seems that a good, thoughtful, advice based thread that outlines/details the effort it takes to start a successful squad would be helpful to the forum. I have no such experience; I'm not qualified.

This is not a completely selfless call. I have no desire to start a squad, but I do have a desire to limit my sympathy for the many, many obvious STF Squads.

So, who's up for starting a "How to start a Squad" thread? It would make a good addition to the NLR Library.

If one already exist, please post the helpful link below.

BTW, does anyone know (or can calculate) the percentage rate of success with starting a squad?

I wish there was a list of the people who started squads, I've seen some newer players start a squad, just to move on and start another. The success rate can't be good.

Well, you don't want to make random or untrusted players air marshals because wether you think it or not, the air marshal can demote and kick the MORAF of the squad. So if you don't want a chance of another player committing a mutiny, don't have air marshals unless you truly trust the person you are giving the rank

My advice to newer players thinking of starting a new squadron is: DON'T DO IT!!

The reason being is that if you want your squadron to be a long lasting, successful squadron you must be prepared to pay the price.. way less time actually flying is one (you need to haunt World Chat to recruit decent pilots to join your squadron) and even the rare times while flying in a mission you need to be watching solo pilots flying with & against you to see if they have what it takes to be in your squadron (unless you'll just take anyone.. in which case sooner or later one of those pilots you let in will ruin your squadron's reputation with either bad play or cursing or something, or hijack your squadron..) also you need to have a good 1st Squadron Post here in the Forum to attract the right kind of pilots to your squadron.. AND what is expected from them.. (rules & such) That 1st post on your official squadron thread is kind of important as it is the ONLY written description of what your squadron is all about. (if you just look at the 1st post of all the different squadrons here on Dogfight in the forum you'll see what I mean..)

From what I have seen most pilots that do start a squadron aren't willing to do the work necessary to make their squadron successful.. they seem to think that just because they paid the $100,000 for one that it will automatically become a success... which is far from the reality.

Well
Starting a squadron is a big R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y you must choose between the trouble makers and the good
Selecting pilots to join can take time so dont be discouraged if the squadron isnt big at first
Dont spam world chat recruiting pilots you dont even know, fly with pilots who DO NOT have a squadron tag . If they fly well you can ask them to join but others can find it annoying if you keep on asking
Tarik is another problem he goes in, messes up squadrons because people give him power
To run a successful squadron only give power to those who deserve it and are loyal
They must earn it through time or it will be chaotic

Tariks names:
Last known forum name
Thomy
Last known game name
Castro
He has been inactive for a while or he got a new account to mess stuff up with
Just be careful and make sure to be fair
If someone is breaking the rules warn them but if they do it multiple times then kick them
Most importantly have fun and make sure your members do to

Well I started a squad of my own I started low in a few squads then I decided why not try to make a successful squad of my own my air Marshall position is only available to the loyalist pilot I wont let any one reach the rank of air Marshall until I feel they have proven loyalty and trust id suggest that when you make a air Marshall remove the ability to kick add and squad settings until they have 100% trust have a good squad page and rules explain them some prefer to be minus the squad tag and don't pressure people to join ask them kindly if you wish to have a look at my squad page feel free but remember that if its the he same that can cause problems possibly go for a similar look and when proudly encourage your squad ask them to visit the forum squad page check in there or in sq.chat in game and welcome new recruits and ask them to be in touch when you might not be online like apps such as kik zello BBM facebook communication with your squad is essential and then if your I a game with your squad members ask them to be respectful and respect the other pilots as there is only so much some people can take.

We liberate from our negative will to nothingness, and once having said yes to the instant, the affirmation is contagious. It bursts into a chain that knows no limit. To say yes to one instant is to say yes to all of existence.

As former owner of LEGENDS and AOV I can tell you owning a squad takes time, patients and dedication. A squad is like a brother hood so choose wisely who u want in it. You gotta have order and ur members have to know they can count on u. Officers help a lot also.

Apart from that I'll also tell u it helps if:
1. U communicate well and often
2. Have resources to be able to make banners (optional (some squads don't do the forum thing))
3. Pick a cool name
4. Set some standards and rules
5. Have a cool logo
6. And just fly, have fun and recruit often

I think that's just about covers it bro lol
Then rest is ur own, just look into other squads and see what makes them successful....

But personally owning a squad can be a lot of fun and it's hard to give up once you start to think of them as family. Nobody will ever have them same bond like what you and ur members will expirence.

Just don't start any wars and I think you'll be good lol

That's all I'm gonna say

Good luck!

I found it!

It's a little outdated, from before the squads were managed in-game. It's mostly about the "mechanics" of starting a squad. Some of the comments made here by others are good additions because they address more of the social aspects, especially Octavia's post in the link she provided above.

This thread is stickied in the "Squadrons" forum catagory. (You have to look below the list of squads with their own section.)

Wow Sir McFate,

As always, you have answer to all.

You are NLR or in fact DF community Google account. No need to have search option in DF when Sir McFate is online.

Post a question and one will have all the answers with full details.

Excellent Sir Mcfate.

Ya! Great find McFate. Did you add that link to the library?

Did I mention how much I love the fact that our squad has a library  :woohoo:
