i have played for about 2 years now. I have watched some things change and others not. Here are my thoughts.
1. Lag is by far, and always has been, the single most complained about issue in the game.

2. In all the updates, graphics have been added that have no effect toward improving lag. Some have even been a huge mistake. Remember the train?

3. I fly with all but basic graphics turned off. No clouds, trees, realistic water. These add nothing to the game for me. The game is flying and fighting other planes.

4. I would be happy to play on a flat map if that would improve the gameplay. I have no interest in sightseeing trees, clouds, etc.

5. We have now regressed to a game where we may not be able to fly with our friends. To me a major point of enjoyment. We can only play the game we spawn into until it is over, and there are games i do not enjoy. A dogfight game with no other players comes to mind here, and no way to go into anything else.

6. I have paid my subscription for 2 months now, and cannot play because of another update that adds the option to record games. Adds nothing, and i have watched some of the videos, it is like watching someone get a haircut.

I would like to see the return to its former, simple, you shoot me, i shoot you playability. I dont even care if i am outnumbered 7-1 against me.

Am i wrong here?

I am into graphic sightseeing.....in World of Tanks, I take a detour in the Middleburg village to see the BMW Motorcycle with the sidecar. love those little extras!

But the game has to work first.

I like to visit the duck... but yes, I have everything else turned off. Little easter eggs are fine, but yeah, shadows/trees/etc are not my bag.

For what its worth, I turn off all the graphics that I can, if it doesn't help me kill reds, I am not interested in it.

I figure the more graphics the less time my processor has to handle the important matters like steering and shooting.

Used to be if you hit a tree, you die. Assuming that it still works that way, why would I want that? Even if it is a pretty tree.

Though I like graphics, I'd rather have the speed to kill reds. Graphics are good in a flight sim.

As the saying goes, he can't have his cake and eat it too. He must only pray that the improvements he attempts to make don't altogether destroy the game. If the main appeal of the game continues to be the community, it will take an extraordinary effort to make it succeed.

Spot on HB, couldnt agree more, as with your comments TR. I turn everything off that I can to make it perform the best I can.
I agree, a simpler game that runs very well will keep the majority of the "paying customers" happy longer.

If you got the latest update from Apple, DO NOT TURN OFF GRAPHICS.
The bug that stops you from playing is only on the old terrain system. Unity made a huge bug on it and it doesn't detect it (the same way it wasn't detecting the houses next to the airport).

This means that the airplane things it is outside the map and it immediately displays the 'crash' popup.

It is fixed already after a very hard day finding out what was going on. It is sent to Apple but until the update is out, either do not update to the version online today or if you do and have a fast enough device: iPhone 5, ipad 4. Don't remove graphic quality since once you go into the old terrain system... you are in trouble.

Paying will be the solution to many of the problems, but the only people who will benefit will be those that have paid.

Anyone who thinks that paying to play will immediately solve any and all issues they have with the game either have a screw loose, or they can count up to their I.Q. on their fingers and toes. Those that pay are trying to ensure the continuation of the game as it stands and hopefully fund newer, faster servers. The new servers will only be available to those players that have paid for a subscription.

As well as faster servers, subscribed players will also be funding further developments in the game.

It all relies on people sticking their hand in their pocket and putting a bit of loose change on the table once a month. A small price to pay in my opinion to keep being able to play and see the game and forum grow.

I agree HB, that is why I am silent for now. As for paying I just want to clarify, many of us "non-payers" see the issues the payers are having. Until I or others see the improvements/ issues fixed a lot of people don't want to pay.(why pay for a game that seems to not work)? As for me personally, I wod like to hit moraf before paying (135,000 to go btw). It's the catch 22 that is happening here. People don't want to pay for something that is broken and ZUP can't fix it unless people pay. That's my 2 cents worth. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right, only time will tell.

. Ok Zup i tried this and still no joy . Crash when I spawn in and full throttle no take off . Lot of hard work to get to ranking 24 and now I can't play to maintain it . I had no choice but update as it wouldn't let me play without update .

That's a lot better than what I had typed out KK. And a lot nicer...Couldn't agree with you more.

I paid my money in good faith, knowing it would take time. I still have faith Zup will come through but it's not going to happen without the subscriptions. If you are sitting on the fence waiting for it to get better before you fork out that 2 bucks (that everyone is treating like a million it seems), you will be waiting a long time. I'm out 4 bucks now, and I still have faith.

I still can't believe the amount of people every day that play this game (20,000 a day I heard) and we can't even get 500 subscribers.

As far as I understood it the purpose of the subscription was to provide more servers when the free Microsoft servers were withdrawn. Six game possibilities were reduced to three so after subscribing I thought the extra income would be used to provide more choice. Instead I find that the effective number of games is now down to one - take it or leave it with no possibility of choosing sides and hence no choice between allied and german planes. I hear there are enhancements in the visual effects which I do not particularly want as my experience with "realistic" water produced unusable lag. Similarly the ability to record game play is of limited use to me.
I have flown hard to get a top level german plane and am accumulating points to upgrade it. Now I am getting stuck with my BE all the time with little opportunity to use my best plane and little point in trying to update something I cannot use.
The latest update means that I cannot even fly the BE!
I can remember when this game was a pleasure to play and even before the latest upgrade it was still a lot of fun. Now with the restrictions on game choice and with the effective number of servers down to one I am seriously considering whether to continue my subscription.v

For the time being I have found if I close the app then reopen it I get different side or game.

As far as I can tell, there are currently 3 main server choices. These are America, Europe and Asia. All the Americas servers have been grouped, the European servers have been grouped and the Asian server stands alone. As I have very fast internet, I am able to log on to all the servers, so I get three game choices. When Zup gets enough revenue from subscriptions to support more servers the he will split the Americas back to 3 main servers, the European back to 2 main servers and hopefully introduce another Asian server. The more revenue he receives, the more servers can be added, so we may get more servers than we started with which means therefore a greater game choice. In the meantime, Zup is doing his best with the limited resources he has.

Question for you KK, is this some info you have, or speculation on your part? If solid info where did you get it.

Speculation my friend, but educated speculation. If Zup only wanted to make money from the game then he would have shut it down a long time ago, as soon as it started costing him money to run. On many posts he has stated that he can't work 24/7 and not earn anything from all his hard work.

Dogfight is Zup's baby, he is passionate about keeping it alive. Reading between the lines on his posts it is evident that he cares about the group of people who have played the game and the extended family the game has created. He doesn't want to 'pull the plug' on the folks that play here and have made friendships in-game and on the forum. He is human after all, he cares about people that enjoy and have enjoyed playing and I am sure that his passion for the game will continue.

A quick example for you, I live in the UK so I am on Greenwich Mean Time(GMT). Last night, I logged out at 01:15. Zup was still in World chat and on the forum when I logged out. He is based in Spain, which is GMT+1. 02:15 and he was still trying to sort out people's problems with the game. In my opinion, that goes above and beyond what you would consider to be reasonable for a working day. Kudos to Zup, he deserves all the support we can give him.
