I'm rather late for the Zuperman bashing but I'm not here to defend him, nor am I here to sing praises. As most of you who know me, I'm not the type who complains much and would rather hunker down and face things head-on. Just thought of sharing some of my thoughts.

Last night, I decided to visit Storm Raiders, a WW2 air combat game, the game that I left behind for Dogfight. While Dogfight is nowhere near perfect, I have a number of things to be thankful for. And after my brief re-appearance in Storm Raiders, I suddenly remembered why I ultimately migrated to Dogfight.

1) Level playing field
Yes, higher ranking players and planes will always have the upper hand. But think about this: in Storm Raiders, there is currently a "domination" of players using the MAC over the ones using mobile devices: the Mac players fly like UFOs i.e. Mac Player in a Mosquito handily OUT-TURNS a Zero in a SLOW-SPEED turn fight. Energy tactics? Boom and zoom? Its an arcade flight game that focus on T&B and has little in the way of tactics. Should energy tactics or B&Z work, you'd get frowned upon by the game's so-called aces. At least in DF, the lowest level plane can win with the right tactics, regardless of device. And speaking of frowned upon;

2) The community
If DF's world chat is a cesspool, imagine having some players taunt you everytime you get shot down with lines like:

"Haha asshole/loser/other expletives"

"god what a rookie"

"2v2 kings! Pussies!"

"Smart playing???? WEAK!"

These are just samples and are some of the lightest. Imagine seeing worse kinds of lines spammed a lot in the middle of a game. And to top it off, some of the aces in that game are so full of themselves that they think they are gods and should therefore be assholes to other players. Come to to think of it, many of the verbal offenders in world chat share similar characteristics to the trolls in Storm Raiders. At least we get to police ourselves here in DF. And many will come to your aid if they can. For all the drama seen here, it's still relatively light compared to the issues that I see showing up at the other game that I used to play. And last but not the least;

3) Lag
Storm Raiders has some of the worst lags in my experience. Imagine having this "rubber bullet" effect wherein your target is in front of you, you've been peppering it with bullets since forever and it still doesn't go down. Meanwhile, your target is already on your six and you're surprised that your plane with 98% strength is already down to 5% in a few seconds without you even knowing it. At least in DF, there are a lot of warnings to know if you're lagging long before you get into a furball and when you do, you're not always on the losing end. You always have a fighting chance regardless of rank. And when its too much, you can always choose the server closest to your location to lessen the lag.

I'm not saying Storm Raiders is the worst game out there. In fact, its quite good. As for Dogfight and its corresponding issues, for those who paid, they have every right to complain, its just that, a guy has other things to attend to as well and for all we know, he's attending to those issues quietly. And with the above-mentioned reasons that I've experienced, I say lets focus on the good while waiting for feedback from Zup. That aside, I'm very happy with Dogfight. I get a flight game that doesn't lag much, where technical advantages can be overcome with teamwork and tactics (and not be frowned upon everytime!) and have a very decent community of enthusiasts to boot.

Just my two cents.

Cheers everyone.

it is very interesting when you compared with other games.and i think you are correct. in DF we do have noobs but we quickly sort them out. personally i don't have the best plane in DF but i still shoot down pilots with better planes then mine. i like the fact all ranks are together, at first i used to die a lot against morafs but today i manage to get a decent kill to death ratio against them. the road to becoming a good DF pilot is hard and going against the best teaches you a lot. tks Robert for bring this up. in this game we form friendships and learn how to think tactic wise. i am glad this game exists and like all other games it has flaws but these can be improved. good day to all and enjoy the lead filled sky :cheer:

ROBERTS, I would have to agree for the most part, I don't play any other games so I can't really make a comparison.
I've been her for just over two years, Ihave seen the game add a lot of new things to keep it interesting and I've seen things come and go due to the lack of support. (Remember the train)
Anyway I myself enjoy the game very much with all the complaints and berating chat it is still at worst a competitive and very social game, both aspects I feel make it the great game that it is.

Alpha Broke hit the nail on the head with being schooled by the best makes you one of the best, provided you don't rage out and see how many pieces your device will count out after Hiting the floor after Wig or Hulk shoot you down for the 90th seemingly effortless time in that minute....... we've all been there and still are at time even today... point is you hang in long enough, stay true to the game play and anyone and everyone becomes a downable target....

I have made many good friends here at dogfight, ones I never would have had the opportunity to meet in my little part of the world alone. Our paths have crossed here, and couldn't have any where else. For that I am greatfull. It's worth the the putting up with the random off center cuss word and beratement. Small price to pay to be able to have a conversation with a friend that's on the other side of the planet.... in real time.

Zup, Joaquin, I will give you praise, and thank you for bringing this game to us. Some may not appreciate the real benefits of this game, I do, and I thank you for it!!!!

BTW Roberts nice thread, refreshing. Thanks

Well said guys. And its very true. There may be alot of complaining going here, but still with all of that its a great place to hang out, with many great people in it. I have tried a couple other games, and with the few issues DF has, none has kept me coming back like this one.
Hats off to the fine people of DF, and thanks Zupe for giving it to us.
