I've been on df a few months, global rank now under 1400.
But I just have a crap head on success ratio.
Guestimate about 9:1 against me.
I fly top or range Camel Barker (great turns and my favourite) or Fokker D8 mono.
Android tablet device.
But I seem to get killed head on miles out. Conversely spray my opponent seemingly with nothing registering.
And MORAFS ? I'm dead.
Internet to my village is a bit steam age, so internet latency may be an issue.
Do my opponents have quicker / better Win8 PC kit / and or internet ? :S
Any head on tips ?

As a start drop throttle a touch to increase stabiliy and aim.Aim at target and fire off a burst then move(any direction although up and down works best for me)then line up and burst again.Dont keep lined up or you will die.Never stay in the same line for more than a couple of seconds. It may seem tricky to line up and aim in a split second but practice. This is just basic stuff for you to try.

Remember what influences the ratio. You have two opportunities to kill an oponent that score; Plane and chute or plane and ground target if he chutes and makes it. You get a kill for each tagret you destroy.

Key is that you can only get one death per trip, so if your plane is shot down that's your one death, and targets you hit in chute or from ground are "free" and add to your kill stats but your eventual death in chute or ground does not cost an additional death.

Find the elevation where you can expend chute rifle rounds when ejecting and fly that high. No sense in unused rounds. Learn to hit aircraft with tank fire. They will fly right at the barrel find the elevation and learn how large they need to be (how close) to hit that same range everytime.

Practice leading targets. 3 ways. Point at opponents tracer stream way out in front and hold your traccers to his, let him fly in to yours. second, learn a sustained lead and start in front and slow it down. Third, swing through by firing at the target and bring you aim forward until you get a hit.

Staying away from VON HULK AND MONSTER CANNON as red will help improve your kdr.

Fly slightly to the side and behind someone like Davy, who will draw all the fire from people like Monster Cannon and Hulkster and allow you to shoot targets unhindered.

Monster cannon needs to try some of these tips...and fly behind Davy to conserve ammo. As far as hulk...if red, play dead

Those were some excelent tips for you Cherry, here is a few more.......Always try to fly with a wing man when u can. Chances are your opponent will switch focus from you or will be forced to evade the hail of bullets from both you and your teammate rendering him/her at a slight disadvantage. Also try flying with a bomb even in missions that dont require it until u are absolutely forced to release it. I have observed that carrying a bomb helps stabilize your plane, allowing it to move perfectly straight at top speed. By doing this you have a slight advantage than one which has to slow down to aim, because you will be better able to dodge bullets.

slower is better for head ons. always carry a bomb if it's a BTx mission. sometimes I find if I can't quite get onto target, a slight rock off the target then rack back helps get things lined up

Thanks to everyone who replied, some good tips here, esp the one about holding onto bombs to slow & stabilise flight & aim.Had not fully appreciated this bomb related flight behaviour in a head on.
I have been on receiving end of many kills by such as Khemist and Longrifle so I appreciate your help on thsi this thread.

I want to add one more question: PC Win8 vs Android ?
I only play on an Android 7" touch screen.
In head on mode many players seem to have v effective long distance eysesight / gunsight than I do.
Never having played on a PC - is there any vision / speed / gun response advantage at long range head-ons with a top PC ?

I have found that 85 mph is a good shooting speed for head on encounters.

It's not you....most of those who shoot you from a mile away, simply have a big screen that they can see you on.
