I've been back a few weeks now. Unlike my previous experience, squad membership seems to be alot more important to ppl. Why?

What is so important about being a squad member. I have been invited to many, but I'm not sure which is best for me and what benefit I would get from any of them. I tell everyone that asks that I'm checking out each squad before I decide, but the truth is I don't see what the big deal is.

Most of the the ppl that invited me said I needed a squad for squad wars. When is this? Does this mean I can't play anymore unless I'm in a squad? Do I want a squad that will offer me an officer position? What would that mean? Do I want a squad that seems desperate for members? Do I want one that says they'll train me on tactics? Do I want that just seems like a bunch of fun ppl? Do I want that seems to have some kind of military structure?

I think if I was going to join one, it would be one that has ppl like me. I don't really see that. Does that mean I need my own MsGuided Warrior squad?

Sorry if this is a stupid topic. I just don't get it.

Hmmmmm I can answer some questions and give some of the benefits well first let me say don't join a squad that will offer u a officer position right off the bat because if they do that than they will give everyone a officer position and than everyone can accept peeps and also kick peeps and u should get into a squad with people who u talk a lot with and probably try to get in a squad that just doesn't let peeps in because they see a request and reasons to join is well squads are organization's that connect all of dogfight like having friendly squad wars and such also squads will help game play in future first off by when they take in noobs they tell them the simple rules of DF such as no spawn killing in a tank also they make harder to killl reds and who just likes killing level 8 guys nobody does its boring hmmmm I gtg right now so I will make a part 2 of this message im about to go into my school

Go for whatever sounds most fun for you. B)

I like tactics and goofing off.

Playing the game with strategy and teamwork can require a high level of thinking and can make use of all teammates strengths. I like the analogy of using tactics to make it more like chess vs. using only head-on flying to make it more like checkers. It can be done to some degree with random teams but to make the most of it requires some communication and pre-planning. This can be useful now but if/when squad wars comes, use of tactics will define squads.

On the other hand getting the squad together for a circus session (hold your fire and practice flying stunts) is some of the most fun I've had in Dogfight. Once again it can be done spontaneously with the right group in a random game but it can be more fun with communication and pre-planning.

The NLR and several other squads also use an off forum website to discuss tactics and other stuff.

Size can make quite a difference too. Personally I prefer a smaller squad.

Basically, If you want community beyond the basic game, you should consider a squad.

I joined for the social interaction of people similar to me as well as really different than me. It makes the in game experience more fun when somebody that you have actually conversed with or met in some cases shows up in a game. It's not for everyone, so feel free to go it your own too.

Stupid fat fingers. Enjoy a free "thank you" Jeromy.

Squadrons are usually like minded people. They share the philosophy of what they consider fun and fair play. If you need a strict regime and rank structure, there are squads for that. If you like joking and just killing reds, we got those too. There's also everything in between and extremes in either side. Make sure it's people that you can get along with and enjoying playing with (or against).

Some squads have "codes" or rules they supposedly support. Read their first pages for most squads and you can see what that's all about. Make sure you can live with those rules.

Most importantly, make sure it's a squad you are sure you'll stick with. Nobody likes treacherous squadhoppers

Squad wars? Fairies and unicorns. Not gonna happen. At least not anytime soon. If it does, it won't be what any of us expect. Don't base your decision on squad wars. Base it on the people.

Given your recent reformation in attitude, feel free to read page 1 on the M.O.M thread. If that's something you're in interested in, let a M.O.M know. That's not an invite..... Yet. To be completely fair and honest, we'd have to make sure your previous slant on M.O.M isn't something that would pop up again. You're welcome to the game and forum, all the same. Glad your here!

When I first joined a squad, I did it because I would get a second name above my head.

The second time I joined a squad, it was because I was tired of lone-wolfing it, and wanted people to interact with on a more personally connected level. There's still nothing cooler than signing into a server and finding 6 squadmates in a game together.

The third time I joined a squad, I had left because of personal issues. I went straight for the squadron whose people I felt I could identify with best: the Mean Old Men. Even though I'm not very Mean, not very old, and not very manly, the style and personality of the members appealed to me.mightily. I wouldn't leave M.O.M for the world. Okay, maybe for the world, I would. But I'd think about it for a couple of seconds first.

The point of a squadron is whatever you want it to be. Pick a philosophy, and find a squad that suits you best. For you, I'd honestly say M.O.M. And not just because of your 3.5:1 kdr.
You're getting predictable, guys. You can do better, right?

I don't understand the whole squad thing either. I don't think I will ever join a squad, I mean whats the use? Do you get to hang out with these cyber people? NO. I will probably just fly solo for my time here, It just seems easier than dealing with all the different personalities. Next thing you know, people will want to come to your house and eat your food or talk to you. BLECH...
EDIT--- Please disregard this post, I was just told I "AM" in a squad. Sorry to waste your time. Being in a squad has changed the game for me. If it wasn't for my squadmates, I wouldn't be on the forum, or play as much. Being able to mentor or guide some of the newer recruits, has brought life back to a game that had gotten sort of stale. Seeing a player come into the squad as a metdiocre player and watching them turn into a deadly pilot that is feared is an awesome experience. Either way, check out all the squads before choosing one, then finding out a few weeks later that you are not happy. Good day sir.

As many others here have already stated, joining a squadron is as much for hanging out with like-minded people such as yourself as for any other reason.

Being in a squadron in reference to the hopefully soon upcoming Squadron Wars is a necessity only if you enjoy working with a few people to accomplish a goal.. (i.e. winning a mission against other like minded people) It's as much for trying out things working together as it is for bragging rights.. & no, it's not like you won't be able to continue to play in whatever manner you've been playing in the past if you aren't part of a squadron. Just that if you're NOT part of a squadron you won't be able to participate in Squadron Wars.. that's all.

The Lafayette Escadrille is a small squadron (hence 'escadrille') that is as much about hanging out together & flying with each other (along with having someone to cover your back) along with bringing a little bit of history to the game of Dogfight that we all like so much.

If or when Squadron Wars comes into existence, we hope to be the little 'spoiler' squadron that nobody expects to kick some butt against the large, well-known squadrons that have been here forever in comparison to us! :P

Whatever you think about squadrons, if you are considering joining one I suggest reading the first post of each squadrons thread here in the forum to gain a little perspective on each of them.. along with flying with as many of their pilots as you can to get a view of what kind of pilots they have in their squadrons, prior to making any kind of decision.

Whatever you decide MsGuided.. Good Luck & Happy Hunting in the Skies of Dogfight!! :silly:

I had pretty much the same questions that you have stated. I flew solo for about 3 months before I decided to join the one I'm in. I looked at all of the active squads out there long and hard before deciding. It's not for everyone to join a squad but I have become way better at this game because of the advice and tips from my squad mates. And I have had a blast flying with them too! Take your time with it and check each one out. There is no rush, and you're not wrong if you choose to fly solo. Good luck!

I asked this very same question several months ago. I highly recommend avoiding squads. However, I like peace and quiet, so take that into consideration.

Yes, Mr Finn, in my short time back, I've seen so squad drama. But, from what I've seen if your on the forum, drama will find you eventually.

And Suxxor, thanks for the attempt to switch today. Really appreciated that. You are the only person to have ever do that for me. Really sweet!

Yes. I joined Enigma because us we have a code and we were the first and I didnot wanted to do all the job for Mean Old Mens that should practice a little before playing online, there was also another squad called the Misfit but i read that they come to your house and eat your food. Maybe there are other squads, but it is just fairies, zebra and unicorns.
