I must admit, I am relatively new to DF compared to others...been here since May I think. I am shy when it comes to the internet, my very first post was the beginning of August. I am reluctant to post this as I like to avoid trouble but I love playing the game and want to help make it better so here goes...

Since I've been here I have met a lot of awesome people on here and really, only a few people have I found to be undesirable. What I have observed so far is that people will attack each other for a few days and then it calms down for a bit and gets quiet for awhile....pattern repeats. Then we have others debating for Mods and some sort of control. Fair enough I guess. Personally I don't like control. I resist it in the real world. In the real world you have laws and if you follow them, you stay out of trouble. Nobody has to control you then. There are rules here too. Guess because lots of us aren't following them everyone thinks we need cops on here too...again, fair enough.

But If we could all clean up our own back yards a bit to begin with, would we still have these problems? Does player 2 really need to reply to player 1 when he calls him out on something? If nobody responded to player 1 would he not quit complaining after while? I have yet to see this happen because of that temptation to chime in...drama is attractive to us, like it or not...guilty of it here.

We all get angry or frustrated on here whether it's lag, dropping, spawn killing...on and on. I sure do. Can you not walk away and take a break and think a bit? You're not playing this game to get angry are you? Isn't this supposed to be a short escape from our real world troubles and problems? Fun? Isn't that the point of a game?

Seems to me, the only control needed here is SELF control. We really have no excuse here. You have to think about what it is you want to type before you hit send. In real life when we are angry, sometimes we talk or yell without thinking...big difference.

I know we are of different ages, background, etc. but we all were not brought up to be thugs... Every one knows how to treat people...and it's the same way that you want to be treated.

Mods or not, best control possible is how you control yourself. Real simple...

Thanks from Comet

I have had many replies that I have spent 20 minutes typing out only to hit cancel because it's just not worth it. Of course that has taken on a whole other problem of me not being active in the squad or on the forum. In my opinion it was worth it because it has to stop somewhere

You are absolutly correct. The point I want to make is that person cannot always take the high road, you may want to but there comes a day and time that you have to defend yourself. ZUPERMAN made a simple request, some posted simple replys and then others started with the PUT DOWN of others.

I would like to apologize to ZUPERMAN for his thread going in the wrong direction. I know it's not what he intended to see.

I'll send my apologies as well !! Seems that when I put up a post someone figures out a way to start with me and I need to use more self control in order to ignore it btw what isle do they sell it in lmao!!! No but really I'm the same person in real life as this game and if you look at my post I don't start much with others but if you start with me it's game on!!!! And that's what I need to change!!!We all come from different places in life and all have been through different times. My stories prob alot different then most of yours!! I've been a fighter my entire life and to a point it has made me who I am today I run a very successful repo company and don't take no crap period!! But this is different cause this is a game and I enjoy most if not all of you!!! And the few who keep trying to provoke me well...??? Carry on I guess!!! And to the others I'm sorry!!! 5hanks for the post comet your a good dude and have enlightened me a bit!!! I'll do my very best to ignore the few who are constantly starting bs........

I know exactly what you are talking about gunzz lol. It's hard to live life like that, then come here and have all this bs shoved in your face. Some are just relentless with it and never seem to want to ever just stop and take a breath or a break. Your good people in my book gunzz!

Good post and you're correct. I'm not on here to argue with anyone...but to play the game. In doing so I've made many great friends. I don't believe a mod should control. The majority of people on the forum are great people and are here for the same thing for which I'm here. I think the mod should work in the background, improving our game experience...there are many more not on the forum and who take away a little bit of that good experience from the rest of us. Personally I don't want to be controlled by anyone and definitely agree it starts in our own
Backyard. Very wise post. :)

Regardless of the outcome of any decision made here, I feel it is important to remember that Joaquin/Zuperman has allowed his game to take on it's own life. We as a community are now responsible and self monitoring is a necessary step towards global moderation.

The above was a part of my post on zupermans thread and I feel like most people missed it once the personal attacks began. As usual when people begin to see red then any good is ignored and left behind because everyone is more interested in the outcome of those disputing. Rubbernecking I would call it.

Any way comet, great thought and thread, you should not worry about what people think or say, be you. Unlike some on the forum who feel that hiding demeaning and derogatory comments within long winded and expensive words will intimidate people from expressing thought. Express your self and not drawn into the worthless circle of arguments that have not changed in years, only reinvented.

Very good points. You may not see it, but many of us refrain from replying with those that start with us, I have twice this week alone. But the ones we notice are those that continue on and on. Its not easy to not reply when somebody talks krap about you publicly, but posting a responce will give them reason to reply yet again and probably trash you further. So best thing to do is give it 12 hours before you respond, and usually by then they haves moved on or stated arguing with someone new.

Well said comet, I myself have fallen victim of the spur of the moment chat or post. At which point we need to stop and think, is it really worth it?

Comet is good, comet is wise.
Hey, isn't that a movie quote? Twister, I think.
Anyway, truly wise post.

I believe the quote was, "Rabbit is good. Rabbit is wise." Driving the Barn Burner must have been tough.

I'm afraid I must bear a bit of the direction of this post: or the blame, so to speak.

While I am not the cause of a lot of trolling and flaming, I am an instigator. Once a conflict starts, I have no remorse in piling in and lighting it up.

The truth is, while I have many friends and associates here, I am actually not very emotionally invested in this game. I love this forum, I love this game, but I don't take it too seriously, to the point where anything said or done would make me lose sleep. In my mind, if someone is actually going to take what I say literally after 1000 posts, then they're not even really worth mulling over too contemplatively.

Now, in the course of various drams rearing their ugly heads, there have been, unfortunately, real-life matters brought into what should be a game. A bunch of people are currently yelling over each other hashing that out, so it would really be best if most of us just let them do their thing without badgering them too hard to stop.

Also, realize that when I'm posting, there are usually pms flying around at an enormous rate. Imagine the rate at which people who actually take this seriously are pm'ing. Odds are, a lot of us have no idea what the heck is actually going on.

As I've stated in some buried thread on this site, I love sarcasm, I love watching drama, and I love bugging people who are too easily annoyed. It's weakness of mine.

Long story short: I'll try to exercise more self-control: but the REAL lesson that needs to be learned, is to stop acting like this is real life.

And honestly, if I had actually posted every little speech I decided wasn't worth it, I'd have been banned loooong ago.
You're getting predictable, guys. You can do better, right?
