Everywhere you look in this game, there are angry people.
You fly high? People get angry.
You fly around? People get angry.
You drop a bomb? People get angry.
You camp a base? People get angry.
You say something slightly offensive in chat? People get angry.
People get angry? People get angry about other people getting angry.
Everywhere I look, all across the threads, and the servers, and the chats, is anger. And why? Why do people get so uptight, so snippy, so unreasonable?
Because they care too much. They think this matters. They act like (to quote my friend Cricket) "if you die in the game, you die in real life".
I have the utmost respect for McFate. But even he must admit that there is a new breed of droppers. That when asked by their teammates why they are dropping if they aren't trying to cover, simply reply "I don't carry a bomb". Why? Because they care too much about their KDR! Why do people complain about them? Because they care so much about their fun!
There are countless examples I could illustrate. And I would be more than guilty of many. It would be downright foolhardy to even attempt to deny it. That was just the first example that appeared in my mind (darn droppers).
I will attempt to paraphrase Mr. Paul Mantz, whose wisdom I can only hope to ever match. "Honor is in your own heart. Do what you feel is honorable." And also, "Have fun! Fly a whole mission inverted, for all it matters!" And "Don't let your anger control you. Anger kills. For real."
What should we really care about here? I'll tell you. Each other.
I could never name the top 50 Call of Duty players, or my personal experiences with them.
I can name literally hundreds upon hundreds of people here in Dogfight, along with something I know about them. THAT'S what matters, is our chance to meet real people, and interact with them on a daily platform.
As Wig once said, "The game itself is an extension of the forum. Not the other way around, however it was originally intended." And it's true. I've seen pilots become literally depressed because they were heartbroken about what was thought of them here.
The game is how we bond. Where we first meet our friends, and expand our community into a city in the skies.
So, I don't know, let's just try to smell the figurative roses along the figurative pathway of our virtual skies? Play for the team. The people. Put the ego and personality behind.
Just my thoughts. A compiled plea to just... Cool down. It's not worth fighting about, seriously.
Respectfully to all,
Mac
