Who says cars are not natural lol. Humans are natural and we build them. So if cars are not natural then we must say a bird nest is also not natural.

I need a dart bored with an environmentalist on it. I think I would hit the center of hit every time.

Great thinking Dixie!

Actually, you don't need to burn coal to power your electric car. A modestly sized solar array can provide all the power needed for most commuters. 300 sqft can produce 60 miles of power for driving average daily. If you live in an area where your electrical utility rates average over $ .15/ kilowatt hour (KWH) you can possibly spend less per month by buying a solar power system rather than just consuming from the power grid. Electric vehicles typically get 4 miles per KWH so that is a little less than $.04/ mile in fuel costs. Compare that to a car that gets 30 miles/gallon at $3.00/ gallon ($.10/mile)

Electric cars have high performance and very low maintenance expenses. They can help stabilize the utility by charging during times of low demand and in some cases providing additional local surge capacity (in some cases back up power) therefore decreasing the need for more utility infrastructure.

Batteries are still the weak link but they're developing quickly. Useful driving range is near 150 miles between recharges for many models. Most EVs are sold with a battery warranty and a recycle/replacement contract is becoming more common.

So actually, EVs aren't just for tree huggers. They also make sense for penny pinchers, high performance enthusiasts and those who want to avoid taxes. (Road taxes are often collected by additional per/gallon fees at the pump)

Environmentalist should be more worried about the volcano at yellow stone park than the amount of fumes put in the air every day by humans. That thing blows and you can say good bye to america.

#1 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone could be up to 1,000 time more powerful than the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980.

#2 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone would spew volcanic ash 25 miles up into the air.

#3 The next eruption of Yellowstone seems to be getting closer with each passing year. Since 2004, some areas of Yellowstone National Park have risen by as much as 10 inches.

#4 There are approximately 3,000 earthquakes in the Yellowstone area every single year.

#5 In the event of a full-scale eruption of Yellowstone, virtually the entire northwest United States will be completely destroyed.

#6 A massive eruption of Yellowstone would mean that just about everything within a 100 mile radius of Yellowstone would be immediately killed.

#7 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone could also potentially dump a layer of volcanic ash that is at least 10 feet deep up to 1,000 miles away.

#8 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone would cover virtually the entire midwest United States with volcanic ash. Food production in America would be almost totally wiped out.

#9 The “volcanic winter” that a massive Yellowstone eruption would cause would radically cool the planet. Some scientists believe that global temperatures would decline by up to 20 degrees.

#10 America would never be the same again after a massive Yellowstone eruption. Some scientists believe that a full eruption by Yellowstone would render two-thirds of the United States completely uninhabitable.

#11 Scientists tell us that it is not a matter of “if” Yellowstone will erupt but rather “when” the next inevitable eruption will take place.

In essence, a Yellowstone eruption would be on the same level as a Carrington event. Either one would fundamentally change life in the United States in a single day.

I'm all about using resources wisely, and not needlessly spoiling the Earth. With that said, people make really nice paychecks for themselves these days exploiting every possible facet of that feeling. It seems like quite a few of them are making a good bit from me by using useless bad technology that only makes things worse, but costs a fortune to use and maintain. Such is life I guess. I was born 100 years too late I think.

So, I wanna thank you guys for the laughs on this thread. It's quite funny. Now c'mon down to the Jolly Roger! We'll have a breakfast buffet of sea turtle eggs and some manatee bacon!

Sounds great! I just don't want to see the word "mandate" attached to those facts, and my fear is that that will be the case. I'm perfectly happy to let the free market decide. Personally, I'd love a way to run around on the cheap, if performance, safety, and reliability doesn't suffer in the process. I buy as much as 8K in fuel per month, so I'm all ears when it comes to good and realistic alternatives. As far as road tax savings go, that will be a perk for early users, but obviously won't last very long if the technology becomes accepted.
