Warning: Spoiler!

I'm not really that old but even I can remember things like no seatbelts on back seat or shotgun ammo in shop right next to beer shelf etc. I would like to hear your story. What was different back then?

Excellent topic! Off the top of my head, I remember when.....

Radar detectors were legal
Popeye "candy sticks" were Popeye cigarettes
A Swanson dinner took 40 frigging minutes to heat up in the oven
You used MONEY to buy things...like a page of stamps to mail letters with
It took 3 days to find out the pictures you took were crap
You kept a couple dimes in your wallet for the pay phone
You used a phonebook to find someone's number
You went to the record store to buy tapes, and made copies to sell your friends for $2.00
VHS or Beta was an argument in the making
If you had to find a place you used a map....made of paper
We actually had to TALK to each other
If you wanted to know something you looked for a book at the library

I could keep this list going a LONG time....

I remember when there was no mobile phones, no computers (ahh well the commodore vic 20 existed)
No home video or fancy video games. Donky Kong and Pucman ruled.
TV wasn't used as babysitter and children WANTED to play outside.

Is that PONG?! SAAAA-WEET!
I still have an original Atari 2600 in my parents' attic, AND one of the sleek "New" 2600's that came out years after. Pretty sick eh? I also have about 50 games lol! I might even drive down there and get it, hook it up to the flat screen and have a PAR-TAY!

Nothing brings in the honey's like a 2600....NOTHING!

EDIT - No, I was wrong - Pong had flat....whatevers...not square. But you got to use the paddles instead of the joystick. Those paddles were poison, they'd go all cock-eyed just by looking at them the wrong way!

Atari, tank pong was the coolest. Damn that was a long time ago. Anyone remember intellivision? I will see if I can find a pic.

I still remember the phone number to the house I grew up in. One phone and it was in the house, on the wall, with a long cord attached to it. Caveman days. :)

You had to slide these little plastic pads in the controllers to play the games.

This was the top of the line graphics.

Ours was push button but my grandmother had a rotary. It was in the old box with the crank on it for the original phone the had. They removed the guts and made it a cabinet. I bet it is still hanging on the wall in the house. Looked something like this. But had the newer phone inside. You opened it up and there was the real phone.

My first game console was a Colecovision.

Funny you brought NES up. My brothers most appreciated Christmas gift THIS year was a "new" game to his(ours from the beginning) NES. He still has it hooked up to the TV along with a PS3.

Remember blowing in the games to get them to work? You would blow until your face turned red. Trying to get the dust out of 'em. Maybe if you blew just hard enough and the right amount of times it would work.

LMBO! I always blew on the cartridge first and then the slot in the console! Strangely though no dust ever came out lol! I'd get so dizzy when it just refused to work and I'd keep blowing bc i just KNEW that that pesky little piece of dust would dislodge itself sooner or later and allow the game to work hahaha

Well young man when I started driving gas and smokes was only $.20 each, and than there was gas wars where you could sometimes get gas for as little as $.11. Lo,and don't forget soda or pop, depending on where you live, it was only $.06 a bottle.

Oh god you did not just bring up parachute pants! HAHAHAHAHA!!! When i was 13 my stepdad was digging around in the garage and found a box in the garage from just after he was discharged from the air force at the end of vietnam. He still had the most embarrassingly atrocious pair of bell bottoms ive ever seen. Blue and orange with a little white and the bottoms of the legs were a good foot and a half wide each!

Moon boots.

When I was pretty young I had this big clunky pair of blue and red moon boots. It had snowed several feet during Christmas break. There was an open lot between our house and the neighbors. The people that lived across the ally had a vicious german Shepard mix. It hated every one. I'm in my moon boots in a few feet of snow, alone in the middle of this wide open lot. The dog sees me. Oh S$&t! I'm dead. Here comes the dog. Low and fast. Snarling with his teeth out. I turned and started to run. MOON BOOTS AND SNOW! Ahhhhhhhhh. Noooooooo. It's like running away from a monster in a dream. This dog is coming to eat me. He is getting close now and I'm done. Wait? I see a BIG rock poking through the snow. I start digging for my life. I get the rock out with both hands. I turn as fast as I can and shot put this huge rock at this dog. He puts on the breaks and the rock almost crushes his skull. Missed his head by about a half inch. He stops, turns around, and just goes home. Weirdest thig I've ever seen. That dog never messed with me again and he was the terror of the neighborhood. I was lucky. No more rocks. I may have been 10. Probably younger. Moon boots may be a great thing on the moon, but not so good when you need to run from a killer dog that weighs more than you do.
