hi

I always wondered... why do you guys use that in name? I understand in the forum since there is no squadron label in here, but in the game when you are playing everybody sees your squadron name on top. Why is it even required on some squadrons to add the [squadron]name thing?

I would say its because when you pull up the ingame stats you can see who is from where plus if you see ZUPERMAN HAS JOINED THE GAME, if you don't know whose team you belong to [DFC] Zuperman instantly tells you that you are part of dogfight clan.

I never really quite got that squad tag before the name thing. You'll find my squad affiliation above my plane. I noticed most of the younger crowd on world chat do this. What happens when all the letters are used? What if we have a Warrior, Wardog, Wraith, Wildcats, And so on.. Who get's the [W]? Surely you can't claim a letter. Keep it classy!

who cares if people from x squad joined or left upon joining the game? :? when I see things like [ws] or [wf] or [wtc]... i have no clue which squad it is anyway. And the people that knows, they already know you.

I can add that to the game, but it would make the chat announcements unnecessarily long. You will see from which squad the person is as soon as you see them on the sky. I don't see the point of announcing it when entering the game.

I don't know, it seems a matter of taste but i was surprised to see some squads enforcing it as if the squad name was not visible anywhere

oh and it can also create a naming problem. For instance, if i were to replace my Zuperman with [dfc]Zuperman and someone took my name... people would get confused. And if I decide to switch squadrons to [ccc]zuperman and someone decided to join my old one [dfc]zuperman... people would not know which one was the original. To me it seems to have potential to create a mess.

now what we put in our in game names isn't accepted ....how does one keep up with these unwritten rules. Does it really matter that I have a [M]...or has the right person finally complained about it. I have been here over a year now and this is the first I have heard of this being a problem

who said in here this is not accepted, forbidden or creating problems? :?

the whole conversation is asking if there is a real point to it since it can get messy pretty fast if people reuse your same name. Anybody can do as they please, but if someone took [c]bhfoust or [ws]bhfoust or simply bhfoust you may not like it and there is no rule against that.

So up to you to do whatever, i'm just asking and pointing it out.

Talking about names. There's some cleaning to do. There are great names that cannot get used because someone tried game sometimes and forgot the whole thing. I tried some cool names for my second account and all of them were taken. When I checked the ranks, most of them were aspirants with one death and 15 crashes. Those guys are newer coming back so you could just remove their accounts.

if someone wants to take my name, not much I can do about that....hopefully they do better than I do. if you want to see the real [M] bhfoust just look in the #7 spot...well for today anyway. There are many squads that have tags in their name, a lot of them have been around since the beginning.

I do it as a ranking system in my squad. The big [WS] being those wraiths who have shown that they are going to stay and be active for
the forseeable future while the small [ws] are probationary pilots that i'm evaluating since i cant own two squads unless i start another account which i'm not terribly inclined to do. I find it offers incentive for my pilots, something for them to strive to achieve, at least for the ones who want it.

Ranking is part of it with the misfits too. A lowercase m indicates a recruit, while Capitol M is a full member. It might be a problem to implement, but in my shooting club everyone has an alias, think call sign, and It is registered in the clubs across the country. No one else can have that name or any closely similar name. That way there are no impostors. Like I said it might be a problem to implement.

Falcons and enigma were doing this when I started. Now most squads are doing it.

Yep. Engima started out with the idea Falcons then followed then most squads thought its was cool and do the same thing. Its mostly just a thing for saying I am in this squad and I am proud of it. When you join the game you want them to know what squad you are in because it can be good for recruiting when another person watches that [e], [M], or |111th| light up the screen with kill streaks and bombings. Other than that it is mainly for the fun of it.

Wow so many points on this topic. I found it easier to use the [m] and [M] to distinguish recruits and full members then to make a 121st Misfits Recruit squad. Since its easier to just change your name then to join a recruiting squad then leave a week later and wait anotherweek or two to join the full squad! See Zup, if some one takes my name then so be it! Lol makes me feel like i inspired some one!

When the initial idea of squadrons came about (and I mean -- back when it was only the Enigma Corps & 111th Falcon Squadron running the show), we needed a way of identifying squad-mates. But we couldn't list an entire squadron; that would take up too many characters and we would be forced to shorten our names.

Having both run and been in several succesful clans in other games, we always used clantags. So, I incorporated them into Enigma and utilized the squadtag itself as our logo. The 111th followed suit and we were all able to identfy each other in game with [111]/[111th] and [e]. It allowed us to carry out our classic rivalry without constantly questioning who was on which squadron.

It was then picked up by other upcoming squadrons and everyone began using it due to it being both simple & functional.

Very well said! Between the [e]s and the [111th] us Misfits adapted to using it as well! Very funcional! Thanks for the idea!

Sorry dint see this thread until now...I see many reasons for the squad added to your name:

It appears in world chat so people get a feel for what your squad is about

It appears when you join a game for all so you can see what squads are in game

It shows up when you kill and die which reminds players what squad is either killing or dying at the time

Like it was said before upper and lower case can be used for recruits and full members

You can see quickly that someone has left or joined a squad

It could also provide a way that if you had a button (and oh god I hope you add this) to turn off names like the chat we would still see what was happening via chat and have all details

Zuperman...I'm curious about your thoughts now after reading some feedback. For me, it is mainly a source of pride and recognition. It may seem silly to some, but hopefully that pride in ones affiliation and personal investment help keep EchoBooms lights on at night (it's well deserved). Off to kill more Morafs.
