I have not been able to see the super nova yet, it should brighten up some this week.

I have been able to view Mercury a couple times the past few evenings.

Here are a couple of screen shots that can help you find m82 (Cigar Galaxy) in the proximity of the big and little dippers.

i think you've got double exposure with with Felix there! Or is this some sort of mythological astrology thing! touché

For Australian's here's a guide to the comets, meteor showers and eclipses we can expect this year (YAY for me most are visible from the south east).

My scope is not designed for astrophotography, so I ordered a bracket that will hold my phone in place at the eyepiece. I'll never be able to do timelapse, but I'll have fun just the same. It was windy today and cloudy tonight so of course it was delivered today. I just couldn't wait so here is a crappy pic I took. I'm sure I'll get better results with practice and better seeing conditions.

Couple of cool things happening soon.

1- Mars will be at opposition on April 8th. This means that it will be as close to the earth as it ever gets. It will not happen again for another two years. The view is already better than Ive ever seen. I have been able to see the polar ice, and even resolve some clouds.

2- There will be a total lunar eclipse on April 15th. This will be the first of four this year. It will be best viewed in North America.

It was awesome here in Melbourne too, sorry to rub it in. I didn't have my DSLR with me, so I only had my cell phone. The moon was properly dark, you could hardly see it.

Good news is that there will be another one in October, plus a partial solar one on the 29th! ( www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2014/01/29/3932747.htm

Rain and cloud killed it here too. You could tell it was much darker about 20 minutes ago but I can't see anything other than grey cloud and mist.

I got a half decent photo of the moon, taken with a canon Eos M and EF 55-250 lens, but I can't figure out how to load it onto here (from an ipad) so you will just have to imagine how amazing it is! Unless anyone can enlighten me on out how to do it?

The upload picture thing never works for me either, so I pit pictures up onto another website, Flickr, picassa etc and then you can insert a link to the image.

Sorry it took me so long to reply Muck.

I have an Orion 10" dobsonian reflector. I have 3 eyepieces, 25mm, 10mm, and 6mm. The 25 and 10 are basic plossels but the 6 is an extra wide field of view. 1250 focal length gives me about f5.

Been thinking of upgrading from my 130mm reflector to a 12" Dobsonian. But there is a 4.75" refractor caught my eye too...decisions, decisions. Refractor of course has a drive, Dobs don't, but the Dob does gather a bit more light and there is a collapsible one that is easy to put in the car. I must think on this.

Also, can any of you guys help me out, I've just bought a new laptop and I've searched Google store and Windows store for two apps, 'Distant Suns' and 'Red Shift', but I can't find them, are they available, I have both on my pad, but would really like them or something as good on the laptop.
