Thought it would be nice if some of you would be kind enough to share your typical day of Turkeys! Either food wise, family wise, long standing familial tradition or anything that you used to do and miss.

Since we are a World Wide Community I am hoping some of us could give their experience and share their stories or traditions with the rest of the community.

I was new to this country and had no idea on Thanksgiving. So we usually went with our neighbors down the street and friends to go see the Macy's Day Parade in NY. After the parade we all had chestnuts or pretzels from the stands on our way back home. Once home have some hors d'oeuvres while the Turkey and Ham were still roasting. Of course being told to not eat too much because dinner is almost ready.

We usually started to eat, well I should say the plan was to eat at 5, but usually not before 6 or even later.

Your typical thanksgiving meal, Turkey, Ham, mashed potatoes, several different types of stuffing, squash, sweet potatoes, cabbage, your different cranberry sauces, gravy, I forget what else.

After dinner, the kids and adults separated. We usually went and played games like flashlight tag, ping pong, board games till dessert was ready. After dessert we usually watched TV, played games or watched Saturday Night Live while the adults were doing their thing. I know, not too exciting, but that typically sums it up.

As a teenager, my older sister and i would go to Washington Park in Denver, CO and run the 3 1/2 mile long track around the park in the late morning. Then, we'd return home in time to catch the Turkey Bowl football games on tv. We'd have turkey dinner around 3 pm and then go on a mile long walk with our mother that was usually more of a waddle than a walk. Then my sister and i would do the massive mountain of dishes, watch more football and pass out in the living room.

Nowadays, Thanksgiving is spent with my adopted family in Massachussetts, my niece and nephew, their mother and her boyfriend. And Turkey Bowl remains part of the tradition :)

Oh and if noone has any objections to it I'd like to lead the community in a tradition my grandfather used to do which was a prayer on Thanksgiving. But I'll wait before posting it in case some would prefer i didn't.

Well i havent seen any no's so my apologies in advance to any who find prayer offensive but here goes:

Heavenly Father,

We thank you for this day, and the friends and family you have brought together today. We thank you for this food we are about to recieve and ask that you bless it. Father, we thank you for the blessings and opportunities you give us each and every day and ask that you watch over the servicemen and women, whatever their nationality, serving on the far flung battlefields around the world. We ask that you keep them all safe this day, that they may return home safely to their friends and loved ones this day. We ask that you give clear skies and safe landings to the pilots around the world today. Finally Father, we ask that you forgive our sins, and help guide us as we strive to become better people. We thank you for this diverse community, and the opportunity to safely compete with each other in the most dangerous game known to man. Thank you for all you have done and created Father.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

In our house the CHRISTMAS dinner is exactly the same as THANKSGIVING. I believe this is probably the same for most households.
