Tell us about your memories from before.

It was a guy at work who showed me this game. We played on the breakes but he didn't like being killed by me "an oldie" so he stopped playing.
I thought it was me and a bunch of 12 year old children who played
Man was I wrong.

I have played a total of three practice missions,
I learned the hard way.
Enzo, Mbizzi, WhatUp, 420, Hoagie to name a few, they all spread fear and death, and still do.

I remember my first zep game. WhatUp said follow me I know where to hit it.
I didn't chat at all at first but as I ranked up I started to realize it wasn't kids I played against and that they gladly gave tips on how to improve my flying.
420 tutored me in chasing while she shot me down over and over. I think I smiled for a whole day the first time I managed to take her down in a chase.

I'm glad I found this great game, and I feel privileged to be able to call many of you guys my friends.

Now let's hear about your memories.

I remember a when I first started was in a game with a team killer. I wasn't good enough to catch hi. He was having a good home shooting his team. Parrot came In the game then left then came back several time. As soon as parrot figured out the guy was team killing he stayed. Parrot told the guy stop or else. The guy said what's the bird gonna do. By the time it was all said and done the guy was begging parrot to stop. It s my favorite dogfight memory. With a dogfight mission played with richyroo a close second.

Not a lot of nostalgia for a game I picked up a couple months ago, but I remember my utter shock and dismay moving from the noob server and finding myself suddenly pitted against wily veterans and their advanced machines and tactics, versus my red crate and basic maneuvers. I thought I was still going to be able to clean house against the rookies, and wondered where all those ranks with crossed swords in them came from.

I went from 15-0 in FFA missions to 1-15, swearing up a storm. It was a steep curve, and I had to learn how to use the zebra rifle as well as juke and whirl, but I'm back in the 15-5 range most FFA games. Every now and again I'll find a half dozen legends in a match and sub .500, but not as often.

I remember when you didn't keep your points if you crashed or got shot in your chute before you got to the ground. The frustration of shooting a few planes or getting 400 rounds into the zep the crashing and gaveng no points to show for it.

I remember taking a straight thumping from Cubanoloco and TheOnlySoos and several members of the NLR. What seemed like 1000 games with both of them beating me senseless. The Soos sniping ability is what drive me towards the iPad. The damn iPhone is too small. Shooting the Soos was my goal in life back then.

I remember not knowing what the hell I was supposed to do in a mission. The game was not explanatory back then. It just said bomb the enemy base/carrier, protect/defend the zep, bomb enemy carrier. A real quick flash of that and it was game on. I didn't realize for a long time you could txt in a game. I didn't know what to push. I didn't even know how to check my rankings. I never played the practice missions. Not until way, way after I'd been playing. I just went straight to multiplayer.

I remember thinking, good lord how many rankings are in this damn game? This dude keeps shooting me. What the hell is a Marshal Of The Royal Air Force?

If I can only get the Baron Tri plane. I can compete better. I flew that thing for a long ass time. Way after I had the albatross. I was a killer in it. I can still make it work for me if I want. Before god knows which update the baron Tri plane was a decent choice in a dogfight. Not after one of the many updates. It ruined the Red Baron. It used to turn inside every other plane in the game.

I remember Rickenfaker driving me bat shit crazy. Beating me in a dogfight with the EIII, over, and over, and over again. He is one of the main reasons I can dogfight today. I just kept coming back for more. I think Rick would tell you I'm hard to kill now.

The first few times I saw a guy with a M.O.M tag, I thought what the hell does MOM mean? Must be some kind of freaky Internet thing. Then a few guys invited me to join and told me about the forum. Philip06 and Bstrachan were a couple of the first. That's how I became a forum member. I would search the thing for tips now and again but I didn't care about joining in. I never found any BTW. Back then I was hardly on the forum ever and if I was I was searching for something. That's how I came to be here. I probably played 2 months and never visited the forum. That's how I made friends with most of you.

I remember updating for the first time. Thinking to myself hell yeah this will be better. I learned a lesson that day. After I updated I came here and saw about 10 post about "do not update" Doh! I never take an update any more with out checking here first. I wait until the update has been out a few days too.

I got the game when I was looking for a computer game by the same name. The first person to show me anything was --J-- and he recruited me for enigma. In the early days, i usually went 1-1, relying on the other low rankers to even my k/d. Good times. Less of almost everything bad, except spawnkillers. I only got my first dogfight win at rank 5....

I use to play with my settings a lot too. I'd reset that little slider about 30 times. I thought it made a difference. Finally I realized if you want to compete in a turning dogfight you better be setting on full blast.

This game is the absolute worst as far as explaining things goes. What the hell gives you points? How many? what ranks are there?how many points for a rank? you can get a tank, how? You can get in a parachute and shoot, how? You can shoot with the soldier, how? Etc....etc...

Nothing tells you. You just have to learn it all yourself.

I used to like the sniper on the carrier too. I'd like to see it back. You just need to be able to see the man sniping. That way you can kill him.

I remember my first days in this game, almost two years ago, when nobody teached me how to improve my performance. Always carrying the bomb I was easy prey of guys like What up and others that were the top players at that time. I got some tips when I came to the forum, and my game improved. After joining MOM squadron, it was my first time playing with another Mom, and my first time playing with Wigbomb/Rick: in a dogfight mode game, he was having a hard time with many players that were after him, I went to join him and cleared the sky of enemies ,together. He won the game ,and I finished second with 13 kills. In that game Rule 11 of MOM Squadron was born...

When I first started playing dogfight a couple years ago 2 or 3 it seems like maybe 4 now there was only 2 planes in the game you could fly. No hanger to view them or anything to look and get the name of the planes even. You hit the multiplayer button and got put in the game as a germane (Red Fokker Dr.1) or you got on the Allied side (Sopwith Camel). You had 2 bombs they did not show under your plane and did not hamper or weigh down your plane. It was like flying a plane now with no bombs but you could bomb twice and in two good runs you could end a game with your one plane. There were no buildings just a runway and 8 hangers siting in two lines. There were no other buildings that you could identify as something you needed to bomb. I don't think anyone could have been confused on that part at the time. The graphics on the land scape were not that good. If you flew up high and then looked down on the map I don't think you could tell the difference between a hills, mountains, and the flat ground. It all was the same lifeless green color. There also was just one game type. Bomb the base, Bomb the Base, and lets see what else Bomb the Base.

The games went like your typical team dogfight would if we had one. People get in the air just fly around play with their planes and pretty much dogfight. Their was not much bombing going on because every one was doing loops and twirls turn fighting. This was some what difficult because there were no arrows to follow. You flew around in 3rd person looking around for them while performing your maneuvers to avoid getting shot by them. Once you found them you then tried to get on their tail and put some led in them. There usually was only 2 or 3 people in a game at a time and if you ever got in one with 4 - 8 people it was a miracle. Because of the low numbers of people in it I actually had quit the game for a good several months because it just got boring after a while with no intense games. You just flew and shot things down. Because of that flight style I quickly became a good turn fighter. Head to head combat was rare then and usually resulted in both people missing each other and getting in a turn fight. A good aim back then was not something to be heard of lol.

When I came back to the game months later to find Ranks a hanger new aircraft, and better land scape by fare. There also was new game types. BTC and Dogfight are the ones I remember as new. I cant recall if the zep and the CTC were in yet. They probably were. The se5a and the Albatross D.V.A we all love today was not there. You had the camel, brown Fokker dr.1, Spad 13, Red Fokker Dr.1, Nieport 11 and 17, Fokker E.III, and the Albatross D.III.

First game I went in I was against Chan and some of the other members of the Wut Up Dogfight family. To my pleasure they were all head on fighters at the time. The ones I was going against in that game anyway. I had them all as pretty easy prey in a turn fight there. That game went in my teams favor pretty quick. I dropped my bomb like I had always because I just hated bombing and the game was called dogfight. So I worked my way to there base dogfighting them in turn fights with my Fokker triplane. I pushed them to there base were I then spawn killed the reds or the allied team and let my team bomb them. Turn fighting and spawn killing had gotten very easy that game because now there was a red arrow I could follow. I could skip all other procedures I did and just get on there tail and gun them down.

It was latter that week when I crossed 420 in the skies and got a lesson in the turn fight. 420 owned me. Shot me down over and over and over. She was the first person I had com across since coming back that could beat the crud out of me in the turn fight. She gave me a few tips and then told me about sensitivity and control settings. The miracles of the turn fighter is what they are. After setting my sensitivity to 100 and getting controls position right it took me a while to get used to the responsiveness of the aircraft and resulted in many crashes and over shooting in a fight. Once I got the hang of it though it was not that bad. I could really wreck havoc in a turn once I got the hang of it. I then learned the hard lessons of the head on fight from wit up dogfight but that is another story. I always had a hate for the head on.

At this time in dogfight 99% of the players were below the rank brigadier General. As soon as you reached group captain you felt like you were a rock star and you were considered very deadly. Getting to brigadier general was sweeter than getting to M.O.R.A.F now. You got to Brigadier General and you had made it to the top 50 pilots in the world of dogfight. There was even threads on the forum called how to kill the Brigadier General. It is funny now looking at how now if your a Brigadier your considered a Newbe and how then when you got there people would have called you a super ace.

Oddly enough this is my favorite DF memory too. I joined the game and saw it was CTC. Like I still do I quit to find something else. Then you didn't have servers to choose from; you just took what you got. If you quit a game, chances were you'd end up in that game again and again.... And again. At the time I was actually ranked 50th and the lowest MORAF was low twenties. Funny enough I'm currently ranked lower (52) and there's almost 30 MORAFs ranked below me.

So I joined and quit, joined and quit and then saw the blue on blue kill. So I chat "hey so and so, shoot reds... Or else". Like Jason said. He replies, "what's the bird gonna do?" Jason says, "PH is one of the top 10 players IN THE WORLD, boy are you in trouble!" I couldn't have have fit my head in a real plane after that. Biggest compliment I'd ever gotten in the game. Not only did somebody think I was good, but I had a rep! REALLY!?!? It was just way too cool.

So, I went after him. Killed him twice and said, "brb". Quit to avoid the ban and joined and joined same game. Rinsed and repeated. I musta killed that dude 10-12 times. 2 kills... Quit and rejoin... 2 kills.... Repeat. It was beautiful! It put me back in the same game. Same team, EVERY TIME! I couldn't have planned it better. After a dozen or so beatings this guy did start begging."ok ok PLEASE STOP". "I won't shoot blues ever again, please stop". It was perfect. Never before and never since have I had such a successful teamkilling lesson go so well.

I started almost a year ago. My 14yo son tells about this game "I have to check out". Yeah yeah whatever. I'm an old man, I say. "I DO NOT play online video games like some kid!" 10 months later, I still find myself hiding in the bathroom, garage, grocery store parking lot, wherever just to sneak in "one more good game".

I still have a screen shot of the first time I shot down BStrachan. One month into the game I'm so frustrated with spawnkilling that I start a thread to vent and it becomes one of THE most viewed threads in all of the forum (kinda proud of that).

My biggest Noob moment, I'm a couple weeks or 4 into the game. I can actually hold my own and almost get an even KDR in a game. I go against Dr Dave in a turning fight. We're both carrying bombs and cut circles for what seems like 4 hours. I land a hit. My hands are shaking. I'm literally on the edge of my seat. I'm screaming like a school girl. Talking smack to the screen of my phone. He lines up right in front of me and BAM!!!! GOT HIM!!! Down he goes! Take that! I zip in between the building and the glorious "hangar bombed by ParrotHead" pops up 3 times in a row! Woohoo! Only to be followed by "you've been banned for 5 minutes for being a traitor" message.

That dumbass noob just bombed his own hangars. WHAT A JACKWAGON!

I wouldn't mind the sniper, if he is visible. However, what we had before was an enemy that you could defend against. It was very frustrating and cheap.

As far as tank spawnkilling, I think the real issue here is also the fact that it's not defendable. You don't see it in BTB and that's the one where it's a challenge to get that close. In a FFA, it's not a challenge. You get shot down at the base, tank at the base, no challenge. It also doesn't meet the spirit of that type of game "dogfight", not "cheap shot from a tank". There's a reason most, if not all, of the mods consider it bannable.

I have a few

First was trying to get past practice mission 1.
I couldn't shoot the blocked ring for love nor money.

The second was my 1st forum post.
"Can anyone tell me how to finish practice mission 3"
The planes kept shooting back. If I didn't hit the red as it took off, I was always doomed and it always took me all 12 bombs to hit the hangers

Also, I remember having the courage to hit the multiplayer button for the 1st time.
Nothing scarier for a noob aspirant than seeing a game full of stars and swords.
No noob server in those days.
Many asses handed to me on many plates.

I was brigadier general before I got my KD ratio to 1:1

I remember my first MORAF kill. Dentinhead was chasing one of my teammates and was not checking his tail. I put 2 shots into that striped fuselage and saw him burst into flames. I used this plane.

He used the striped Albatros (credit to Rise of Flight for photo)

When I first came here...few pics..few personalities with pics.

I think I may have helped to changed that......Thanks to MS. LUNA.
.
I am certain some one will disagree...

I don't care. The FORUM is more lively and more visual.

It's been our blessing.......

Who ramblers shot the building doors so thay would open up and you can sneak inside with a tank. Or going in sideways with a plane to get the wings in and then turning around without getting stuck. Finding little odd things to do when you got bored of flying. How about after about a year we had those really really slow bombers........ah the good old days!

Wow, its been so long, lets see if i can remember some.

I was like level 3, i think! when madtothebone, PH, wig and a few others were flying and landing on the far mountain to the west of the german base! I was asked to land with them in remembrance of DUCKWING1. A screen shot was taken, but i never saw it. Not sure if it was posted or not.

Then the first time i circus flew was with PH, again not sure who was in there! But thats when i first learnd how to fly upside down accross the bridge! Had lots of fun back then! Lol

My first MORAF kill well im not sure who it was to be honest. But i remember getting four MORAF's in one day. That was a huge accomplishment for me then. Think i was lvl 5 then.

Another was joining the Falcons on Oct 10, 2012! Great day then too.

Then the biggest accomplishment so far was foust, pownage, alaxninja, bzerkbzerk and i created the 121st MISFITS! Eight months ago we started this family (squad) with no more the 6 people. Now were are in the big leagues with the E, Falcons, M.O.Ms, NLR, BEs, Wardogs and others.

This is one hell of a community! I really want to thank evey pilot in this game for every thing! Awesome, just awesome guys and gals.

It's been almost three years since I started playing dogfight on and off due to school schedule. It was just an accident that I found the dogfight app on my first ipad. I got bored one night at work and decided to look for some flight simulation games that I can download. Few of the names I can remember that I played with the first time were, mbzi, 420, bizmart, yukikaze, stormfastbringer, richport, reid, coop, Calvin, dazzaw and few others. There's also few other names that I don't see no more which I wondered if they just changed names thats why I don't recognize them no more. To be honest this is the only online game i played the longest time because I don't even own play station or other gaming console.

I just never thought that I'm going to be addicted to this game because I was really more into sniping and hunting games. First time I played this game I was kinda embarrassed because I thought I was playing with just little kids but come to find out i wasn't. Till this days, I haven't personally met or know anybody that play or know this game but at least I've learned that theres also few players from the philippines here. The country where I came from before moving to Texas. My over all experience in this gaming community is really great and I'm so proud to say it. Almost everyone are friendly and to meet and know people's from around the world.

I want to thank zuperman for creating this game.:)

After about 4 months of practice ,I decided it was time to go online and show my stuff. I went strutting in my fist game, really not knowing what to expect . About midway down the field I ran into my first red, Miss He||, I thought women play this game, this ought to be a breeze. Boy was I wrong I got my behind handed back to me in a coal bucket ( old saying from the hills of home ). I played several games and never had any ideal what I was doing but the players was very helpful in teaching me what to do as they shot me down. Met some great players that I have a lot of respect for and the list is long so I won't try to name names. Love this community of players.

Think you're going Crazy? Great! When you get there look me up and I'll show you around.
