I mentioned it before and Paul mentioned it on the blacklist thread!!!! PLEASE pm any vulgar and obscene posts to a moderator. No one wants to see the vulgarity here on the forum!!!.. Once a mod receives the pm, he will take the steps necessary to punish the one who has done wrong!. While I'm at it, Please DO not post any improper (obscene and vulgar ) posts to your respective squad pages!! If found they will be deleted!!

Thanks!!:-)

P.s.. if you have any problems with my spelling and punctuation. PLEASE pm me. I am certain that I will most likely ignore it ;) Also I locked this thread because I have not locked one in a while and I miss it ;)

Ok since made fun of the general i will give a serious reply.

I think its important to keep the forum pg. I know if I had younger kids that played this game I wouldn't want them reading that stuff, but I also like to see how bad the person was acting. With both those being said I like it when people put the little pictures up so you have to click on them to see. Just my 2 cents .

Me personally, I don't see the point in even reporting them any more. That's not a jab at any Mods either. It's like this, they cuss up a storm on world chat and in-game. (Every player in dogfight sees world chat) not just a few forum members, EVERYONE. Some one reports them. A Mod sees the report and bans. A day? Two days? Week? Then they are back at it. Why waste the time. Mods need better tools to mute/ban the tools. Unless a mod is on and rebanning every few days its no use. I never was much on reporting language any way. Preferring to kill then over and over in a few games. It usually shuts the old pie hole. The 3rd game will be totally silent.

Remember, EVERYONE sees the world chat.

So to answer the question, NO, I don't think they should be reposted, here or any where else.

I can understand the stance on the postings totally though. I just don't see it doing any good posting it in the first place.

It will bring the world chat feature to an early demise. It detracts from the forum membership any way. They talk on world chat and never come here. How many new forum members have you seen lately? 2 maybe 3 in the last few months. They don't come here even if you tell them about it and they are to thick to realize EVERYONE sees world chat. Every time I pop in a game, some one is warning about language on the chat.

Gen Jack....I agree with everything that you said when you first started the thread......GREAT job....

I also wish that some of the high ranking pilots would refrain from some of the world chat problems that you addressed as well, Jack. We need to all set an example.

How can I help DOGFIGHT ELITE come to fruition if the money folks read the garbage on the WORLD CHAT and then visit the forum to see it reproduced on the forum.

This weekend brought $$ folks here. I was having a wonderful time with Ted & Jane (Read CNN & TBN & Fonda).
and the profanity showed up. Not a good selling point.

Mrs. Turner saw it and exclaimed, "OH! My God!"

I was extremely embarrassed.

The man owns so much and was following my lead as an investment. (He likes the game!)
I felt screwed....and you should as well.

I'll keep trying....and you should as well by helping keep it CLEAN.

I personally don't see any purpose to word chat. Remove it, and put a sign up on the forum button there instead.

The Internet Gaming world is a pretty vulgar place. I like to think we are putting up the good fight. I feel many a youngster has learned about being appropriate in a group setting here.
The world chat with your and Spectre and many others help has gotten better. Look what's really out there it is not as bad as I've seen and the worst are stopped fairly quickly.
I guess people do it to express themselves in a place they feel is unregulated. Some are just plain bad!

Unfortunately, it's not a publicly owned company. I would have bought stock a long time ago.
This is the second time VULGARITY squashed $$. The first was with my team.

You have a team?

If i saw what i see now i would have deleted the app no hesitation because i hate bad words. Hate em! So I'm sure there are more like me who would buy the points to buy planes, and buy the lifetime membership, and buy points to make squad, and recomend game to others.

Is there a way to make a warning pop up when someone posts a profanity? Basically the same type of warning that shows up if you hit a blue. A second or third offense would trigger an automatic mute.

Is it possible in world chat or on the forum to immediately mute anyone and remove a post if a moderator sees a profane post?

Instead if changing the word to "******" the post could be automatically or manually replaced by a message ie: "This post was removed due to inappropriate language" a second or third offense could say "This post was removed and the user muted. User may contact moderators if this action was inappropriate."

Make the word "moderators" a link to a pm accessible to all mods. To save the mods from constant abuse a note in the PM link could pop up referencing the user agreement and letting the offender know that the only way to be reinstated is through humility an any further abuse will result in a permanent ban.

Dix,

There are a number of folks here who are in a position to support (read as: provide significant funding for) endeavors such as DF Elite. Mr. Mantz happens to hang around a crowd of people who, in the words of Forrest Gump, have more money than Davy Crockett. (Not our Davy; Davy Crockett of the 1950's was an extraordinary marketing franchise.)

Games that wish to collect nickel and dime money from a lot of teens and gamer adults can do just fine with the usual internet rubbish and foul language. But games that are looking for investment from business people seeking investment opportunities need to present a game that is professional, lively, attractive, and possesses the ability to be an obsession to many. Dogfight has most of those attributes; however, the world chat and in-game pottymouths take away significantly from the first attribute.

Given Zup's pricing model and Elite attempt, I *think* he is trying to go after the investment model, followed by a ballooning in sales volume that creates enough recurring revenue to be profitable long-term. Unfortunately with an uncontrolled World Chat that is easily used by players before they even take to the skies, this game is doomed to show the worst side of its player population to newcomers and other interested parties. That shuts a lot of doors.

And for me personally, it causes my family to wonder What Da Heck Kind of Game Is Daddy Playing? And the result is predictable; there's no way that the wife would entertain any significant financial support of a game that has such vile spewing between players.

Manfred

EDIT: Oh and to answer the General's question: No profanity in the blacklist thread, even (especially) repostings of pottymouths. (a) it just gives them another audience that is even BIGGER, (b) that stuff is not allowed here, even if we are quoting others, (c) there are plenty of other ways to handle it (PM a mod with details, post a screenshot on photobucket and send the link to a mod, post the perp's name in blacklist and say you have a photo if a mod needs it,... etc.

YES--it's all in the script Zupes adds.
He can add that script to chat and in-game.
I just hope he does.
It would "sink in" to those that do it.

Ok, I suggested it before and I'll suggest it again.
Create a generic PM address that all Mods have access to.

Here are 2 issues that I have had with the current "PM A MOD" system.

Once, I PM'd a mod who was away and had no access.
How was I supposed to know?
No MOD's on line so it's guesswork.
No "out of office" equivalent.

I Also tried on one occasion that was I.M.O. was serious enough to PM Zup.
That still remains unread.

And 1 final point......
Where is the MOD list ?
How are new players supposed to know who / how / where etc.

If you want it kept as clean and safe as possible,
Make it easy. Simples.

Bottom line is some issues have not been effectively addresses so I rarely bother reporting anymore..

I'll try and make it a little clearer...

If you want people to report in an appropriate manner

1. Make it simple.
2. Make it accessible.
3. Make it effective.

Or perhaps just leave so the people can trawl through until they find the previous post on this thread so they know who to PM and then that can PM them all.

Or alternatively, they can save time and just leave it.

The one thing I don't like about PM'g mods (besides random availability) is the lack of searchability. It should matter a lot when someone who is reported also has a long rap sheet. This is why I've always liked the Balcklist thread. Simple to use, fairly obvious, accessible,... but a bad place for reporting pottymouths.

Maybe we could use the /spoiler command, which hides content until you click on it? I'd be interested in what folks think about that. Paul, would that still not pass the age appropriateness concern?

Whatever text or image needs to be under the drawshade, you start with
open-bracket spoiler close-bracket, like this (spoiler) except using square brackets. Then finish by the same command but with a slash. You can see it by quote-replying any message that uses spoiler. Let's experiment to see if it's searchable.
Warning: Spoiler!

;)

Edit: whoops didn't work, lemme go find a quote
Edit again: There, no slash to start, slash to end
Edit again: and searching for poopyface works! We could also use the /hide command if we don't want guests to be able to show the content under cover. Harder to use, but mods could help edit posts to hide content, and we could all coach new posters.
