I've heard a little about him and I know that the mountain behind North Base was named after him.

Can some of you dog fight "old timers" share some stories?

Thanks!

Duck was a vet (Marines, right?) who played DF a while ago.

He was a sniper, a good one at that, 93 kills, I believe. One day, he was out on a mission, and his spotter (The guy who tells him where to shoot to compensate for wind and stuff, if you didn't know) tripped an IED, killing him, and blowing off both of Duck's legs and one arm. He recieved an honorable discharge (Anyone know what medals he was awarded?) and came home. He eventually found Dogfight, and played it on his iPad with one hand. He was actually an incredible player, especially considering his handicap. I have no idea how he dropped his bomb. (Nose, maybe? Anyone know?) So, he eventually started to suffer from complications from his injuries a few months ago. He announced that he was retiring from DF, and we decided to hold a memorial flight for him, while he was still alive. His nurse (Judy) came on and announced his death a few days later. We decided to rename the tallest mountain in the game in his honor.
See you in the skies!

Paul, I would love to know more about the "Twelve O'clock High" movie trivia. I have been intending to add this to my movie collection very soon.

He was an uncredited stunt pilot in many movies, including "12 O'Clock High" He was paid about $5,000, if I remember correctly.

This thread is about DUCKWING1.

CALVIN & BRIAN knew him better than I did.
He was a TRUE HERO. An ace with 1 hand that could fly, shoot, and chatted using a stylus in his mouth.
He married his childhood sweetheart just before he died a year ago.

I miss him. He was a class act and a M.O.M.

I had wondered the same thing, but figured it was none of my business. But... Now that Pandora is out of the box, I'd love to know a bit more about that too. The early aviation pioneers were simply incredible.

Jack, you were right not to ask and I shouldn't have either. Lets have some discretion and respect Paul's privacy and lets not highjack this thread. Duckwing1 was before my time and I remember being curios about him myself as a noob many months ago. I recall reading his posts and thinking what a descent fellow but I never knew about his injuries. Wow, what a trooper ey? You can see the loosing battle from his last few posts and its quite saddening to read but you can also see the fighting spirit to the end. Wish I would have been there, he was from my hometown too, I would've surely paid him a visit.

Well McFate.....I have played many a game with Duckwing.....he was an inspiration to us all...Noush and Paul gave their wonderful statements and they gave much of the detail about him.

He had disabilities from being injured on the war front that he faced the rest of his life. He played with one hand and had a device to help him play to hold the phone while playing.. about 2 months before he died he started having trouble playing because he had other complications in his body (that is what he told me in chat)..so much so that he would get tired while playing from time to time. I remember him parking his plane and chating "guys I need to rest"....some would understand who didn't play with him would say things...I would do my part to explain to others nicely his situation. His common phrase in chat at these momments was "I wont bail...I will never quit a game". The last game I remember Duckwing said "Dang it Swop...I cant do it...I just need to leave the game...I'm just parked here doing nothin..." I told him...."dont leave....just be here as an inspiration"...he said "okay Swop...I'll stay for you...I wont bail".... Duckwing after a moment asked me to pray for him...I said "sure"...I chatted a small line and Duckwing said "Thanks Swop...that means so much to me".

about a week later he died :(

Guys....Its still a little somber thinking of all the many games of playing with the real Duckwing....

that last game I played with him before he died was the saddest game I ever played in dogfight.

I cherish that game....I truly do
