I'll quote my story from Dr Daves thread. Under story theres picture of similar bird I took yesterday.

onsekone wrote: A couple (or ten... who cares) of years ago I was on our hunting cottage with family. It was late fall and we were still a couple of mooses short from our objective. There had been longer cold period but now weather had became warmer making all frosty forest roads useless mud tracks. I was going to use the opportunity to sleep a bit longer one morning.

My dear wedded wife had woke up a bit earlier but suddenly she rushes to bedroom to wake me up. "There are black grouses behind cabin on threetops!"

"So what" I said. "They have right to sit wherever they wish. Let me sleep."

She left just to come back after what felt like 2 minutes but was actually half an hour. And she came with my rifle and an handfull of ammo on other hand. "Now you go to shoot that bird for me!"

"ookay I'll go. Where are my clothes?" "You dont need clothes they are just outside. Go before they leave!" She said and practically pushed me outside.

There was I lying down on wet grass, on my underwear on chilly 4c(or40f) mornig thinking what the hell just happened and wheres that damn bird...

I made that shot and after a couple of days the bird was served on our dinner table. It was a nice bird and a nice memory.

Black grouse and my ol' trusty.

Took this picture just for you boys at the Jeff Foxworthy store in Myrtle Beach. Be sure to zoom in on the sign.

Fuck this place. Second rate hack playing in a yard that's too big for him.

I've yet to see a rifle cambered for 7x33. They used to be around a lot but there havent been commercial ammo for decades until recently. So most guns have been safe queens with no much value.

That gun is Tikka m07 over-under. Caliber 222rem with 12/70 upstairs. Thats not a bencrest gun but can get a job done with its minute of the black grouse accuracy.

Nice hunting picks you had. I try to add pics somethimes. Maby tomorrow. Or so...

I shot this moose a couple of years ago with my dads rifle. He had died accidentially a few months earlier.
The rifle is Tikka m65 in 30-06. I put Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 scope on it.

This was first moose with my CZ American safari magnum in .458 Lott. (On left against tree. Scoped with Leopold VX-III)
Guy who is working on it shot it first but it wasnt very good hit. I shot it when it was almost out of sight in the woods.
Its easier to shoot again than search with dogs and flashlights...

It didn't take another step after getting .458 slug on shoulder.

Bellsaj how do you have 30-06? I thought they use only 6,5x55 in Sweden...

Lmao
If the caliber was to be tested today I doubt that it would be allowed for big game hunting. The barrels on todays rifles is a lott shorter then they used to be.
30-06 is a good caliber but the number of bears where I hunt makes me look at 375 Ruger. Saw that they no longer makes it in Hawkeye Alaska :(
but Howa chambers a rifle with .375 Ruger

Great thread. Makes me want to get the ol' Mosin Nagant 91/30 out and go hunting. I've had my best hunts with that rifle alone; nothing fancy. Just the rifle, a few clips of 7.62x54r and I'm golden.

Who said mosin nagant?? That was my first love!!

I have shot most of my mooses with this beauty. I bought this as 15yr old kid when I needed cheap
rifle with minute of moose accuracy.

My rifle is made in Poland in 1950. I have updated it always when I had money. First I made new stock
on it, then I bought scope, had the barrel cut down, silencer etc... The stock on the picture is made
by real gunsmith. There will be no pictures here from the stock I made myself. It still have
its cheap Chinece Tasco scope on it. And I'm going to keep it that way...

Bellsaj have you taken a look at 9,3x62? Thats one great medium bore cartidge for moose and bear.
And it fits on standard lenght action.

30-06 is not bad at all for bear. With modern bullets like Barnes TTSX or TSX theres huge amounth
of energy trasfer and penetration. Just stick to lighter bullets like 168gr TTSX and work extreme
hot load. With Vihtavuori N550, Norma brass and decent rifle you can make it safely 860m/s.
That will solve any argument in the woods.

It probably will but I don't want to make a hole I can throw my hat through.
If it were to be a 9,3 the 57 feels more attracting then the 62.
.375 ruger also fit in a standard length action.

I started to hunt with my fathers CG 1900 7mm rem mag. When I bought my own rifle I bought a Ruger Mk II RSI 30-06 with a Shirestone 3-12x 44 and that's the one I still use.

Lol. Thats true. It will leave a mark... my brother has .338 win mag and it will ruin meat quite a bit.
I like big and slow bullets better. Thats why I bought .458. I can shoot also 458 win mag with it.
So it works from mouce to elephant.

I am just now loading 375 h&h for my brothers wife.
