I see know reason to name them, for they'll feel no shame. All that seems to do is begin another long line of denials and bs.

I'll still fly on occasion as someone else and will return the favor.

Pardon me for saying so Paul, but not naming them because they'll feel no shame is defeatist as well. I always thought that Richy (as crazy as he is) got it right with the Name and Shame Thread. I always thought TASK was a good idea but would get out of control in a Lord of the Flies kind of way with Bannable Hannibal Legend (as crazy as he is). Name and Shame 'em I say, it does alert a community to the dark sides of otherwise innocent-looking play actors.

That's not to say that i have not skipped from game to game looking to pound someone who just tk'd me. But I explain heavily, and I don't rant crazily because that starts to set a new norm for others.

That's my 2 cents.

Manfred

Edit: It's not against the law to spit gum or drop a ciggy on the street. There's no deterrent except social pressure. Bringing attention to someone (oh gawd, my wife does it constantly and will get shot one day), an audible comment to your family (that's more my style), or a dirty look, they all add up. (Or we can live in Singapore, where those things are illegal!)

All good points Manfred and you may of hit on something. Lots of places it is illegal to spit on streets and as far as the cigs that's littering. Some people are from these stricter less free places and don't understand how others act that way. The others with a looser society cannot understand the more lets say disciplined approach. Where is the middle or do we have to go one way or the other?

Thanks again, WHIP. My pms were verbal LASHings.
I've had many years handling things on my own and it's a hard habit to break.
Let's just say pms allowed me to express myself in a way that is not possible on here.

Man, I log in for a minute to see how it's going, and the first thing I see is Paul and Dent quitting? Not because they got tired of the game, or because they're busy, but because of the people playing? Damn, that was what I used to love about this game, that everyone acted with some common courtesy. Now I see people quitting because of "Taskers"?

I just the TASK page. Great idea, Snide, but... Seems to have gone poorly. I assume that "Taskers" are the vigillantes who attack team/spawnkillers? I've never been against that, those of you who don't know me, you can read my old posts if you like; if you know me, you know that I did all of that stuff. The only thing is, the TASK movement has apparently gotten vigilantism into EVERYONE'S head, not just the forum group (I hope the forum is still a close knit group?), and we all know that people will go too far for a good cause, or use a good cause as an excuse.

Fighting fire with fire only works if the fire is controlled, not just sprayed out. We have mods for a reason, whatever happened to the blacklist thread? Post there, a mod sees it, he mutes/bans them. That didn't make anyone mad but the teamkillers who got banned. I liked that.

See you in the skies sometime....

Well I would say, much like many other issues with the game, we are left to adapt to restore some sense of order. The banned players return again and again to cause their problems and ruin the games. I have heard of the TASK name being abused and that's no different than mods and much like mods the intent was in the right place even if you don't agree with the actions. There are no TASKERS running around gunning people down for fun and then hiding behind the TASK principle.

Yesterday I posted a sort of reform and restoration guidelines for TASK since players are worries that there are no controls for:

- how players get on the list
- how they are treated once on the list
- how TASK conducts themselves

I believe I have covered majority of the problems that can arise from an idea like this. The strangest fact to me is that yesterday I saw a few posts about people hunting bad players just like TASKERS do and yet no one said anything. You want to call everyone vigilantes but we are just players tired of bad behavior. We are not mods and still bound by the game rules so if we do something you consider banable or bad say so. Post it on blacklist or on TASK after all we are here to help.

Perfectly stated answer Whip. I'm still not sure why anyone would complain about TASK? We aren't doing anything wrong, other than targeting the worst of the worst. Those on the list are complained on by many. Besides, we aren't doing anything illegal, we are just killing these guys more than usual :woohoo: If you are on the list, you have an equal chance at killing us. Blacklist is a whole separate place...kinda like the Supreme Court where people are judged, tried, banned and are given a chance to make a case for their unbanning. We are more like bouncers who are given a list by not one, but many customers complaining about a bully. And you know what? It's working like a champ. Every Time one of us enters a game with the said bully, they eventually leave or if they are really stubborn, they just park with their brakes the entire game. Couple of these, and they eventually learn it's not OK to Team Kill. As far as camping and SK....go see that other thread...I don't care for it but I will target them. And like I said before, I'm not the best so they have an equal chance at me so what's the big deal?

been Noushed lately?

Got two more to apologize.
Been flying as someone else...so much easier. More calming.
SHE (BBB) has been explaining to the last few about what they did.

Thank you to those that have been helping me.

MAX...if you read MY posts, you'll see where I'm coming from.

I like TASK. And, if I need you guys...I'll call on the BAT-PHONE.

Whip I don’t know enough to make an informed decision. Also, I really have not seen to many “bad” players. And when I do, I just go after them with words or bullets depending on the crime. And my only experience with TASK was from last week and it was not a positive one. I don’t remember who it was because I don’t let these things get under my skin and I honestly forgot about it until reading your post. I suppose if I had my druthers I’d prefer to the see the forum to continue to police itself the way it always had; but I’m not making an argument here either way, that’s just how I feel. I think DF has some interesting dynamics that continuously get distorted through various harmonics that occur; and I think that’s a good thing. I put TASK in that category; and I also put bad players in that category too. This is the stuff that makes DF and the forum so interesting to me. As long as nobody is really dying, I love to see things play out; see what happens next. It’s half the reason I stick around this God forsaken game.

Anyway, you have my support in the context of what I just said, if that makes any sense. And, for those of you that don’t know where you stand yet, maybe try to ask yourself the following questions.

These are strictly “yes” or “no” type answers. If your answer requires clarification, than you need to shine the strictest light on your arguments and put down the right answer (and of course – you are the only one that knows that):

Is TASK accomplishing what it set out to do?
Has TASK improved DF game play?
Would TASK be missed if they were to disband?
Can the forum and the “good” (I use the term good very loosely here) pilots of DF police itself at least as well as TASK?

Great post Black Flag and this is why I am trying to realign TASK to what it is meant to do. If I answer your questions in my honest but obviously biased opinion:

Is TASK accomplishing what it set out to do?
Not yet but it's starting to, we need more TASKERS and more support

Has TASK improved DF game play?
Sadly NO, from what I hear the TASK name has been used to commit a bunch of poor behavior which resulted in even more poor behavior. But with that said with no support and people using TASK name when not doing what we intended it's hard to say if it's TASK or the reaction to TASK and with more support and TASKERS I believe the answer would be YES.

Would TASK be missed if they were to disband?
YES, I have seen people find some satisfaction in getting there personal scum bag on the TASK list. The blacklist is like the police and we are more like 'Johnny no thumbs.' The mods can only ban according to the rules we can shoot anyone we like so long as they are red. There is a beauty in that difference.

Can the forum and the “good” (I use the term good very loosely here) pilots of DF police itself at least as well as TASK? NO see point above we act in different ways on different people. The scum has to deal with us since we are in game. Look at the MagentaBaron problem, if he was dealing with TASKERS all the time could he ruin the games? The mods couldn't stop him but we could have.

TASKERS,
You folks are doing good..

The BANNING the mods does help...but it's not enough & they don't do enough BANNING.
It seems they are hand-cuffed.

That's sad.

Sorry, I worded my post poorly.

TASK is a great idea, I've always tried to play by the rules that you want TASK to enforce. Teamkillers and spawnkillers die, and potty mouths get screwed with. I think that by trying to make it anything official, though, we've given people an excuse to carry out their bad behavior. It's similar to a guy buying a fake badge and cop costume, and going around abusing people. TASK, though a great idea, may have been best left as an ideal that we all on the forum shared, but didn't try to spread too much.
See you in the skies!
