Retired from the Army in 2006 with about 21, including several fun trips around the world to kill people for Uncle Sam, just to get the college money.
My 10th great grandfather was in the PA Musketry Battalion, later the Pennsylvania Line, and was at the Battle of Long Island when Washington pulled a MacArthur moment. Dad was in the Air Force in the 60's, but never deployed anywhere, as the unpleasantness had just started in the jungles of Vietnam when his enlistment ran out and he left to try and get rich in the big city, Erie PA.
Relatives in most of the other conflagrations, Dad's grandfather on his mother's side was a parapet shooter in WWI. The American Expeditionary Force was short on snipers, but had designated marksmen manning parapets, dueling with iron sights against Germans with scoped rifles. With his German last name and accent he apparently wasn't trusted until he started scoring kills.
