Hey everyone! Out of sheer curiosity, does anyone here run Linux? If so -- which distro are you using (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc etc)

I've been using Ubuntu for years, really digging the 13.04 update. Though it may be considered a Nightly build -- I find it's super stable, only semi-crashing once.

I'm also currently looking to switch to something more versatile & technical. While Ubuntu is HEAPS more customizable than Windows & Mac OS, I'd still like to take it to a new level. The distro Arch has my interest -- but I wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with it. If so, how hard was the learning cliff? I'm very experienced in coding & standard Terminal code. Would I struggle much with Arch since it apparently adds a lot of new codes?

Thanks! :)

Oh -- and if you're a Windows or Mac user, feel free to ask any questions you may have about Linux.

Although I use Windows at work (cuz they think Linux is weird) and at home (for Photoshop and gaming purposes), I like to have some bootable USB sticks and CD/DVD with "live" Linux distros to fix things that "Ruindows" can not - for example, to unlock accidentally locked files, or to recover MBRs (master boot records) from defective hard drives, or even to open some suspicious files on sort of sandbox.
And when I want to access some not so trusty webpages... Just to name few usages. They are a must have, I burn several copies of these monsters and spread over my cabinets and wallets... lol
I like Mint, cuz of those out-of-the-box codecs.
I don't install any distros to my Hard Drive, though.

Hahahah, same here! I have a copy of a Live Ubuntu on my USB as well. :)

Yeah, when I first got Linux I was trying to decide between Mint & Ubuntu. What advantages do you think Mint has over Ubuntu? I'm totally willing to try it out.

And have you ever messed around with Arch?

Slender,

I prefer Mint just because it is sort of an "Ubuntu with pre-instaled codecs" - for video/movies purposes.
And no, I never messed with Arch Linux... After Laura's birth, I needed to make room for her toys and furnitures, so I had to get rid of my desktop - now I have only my notebooks, and so I can't atach 4-5 hardrives on them as I used to do on my former PC, and because of this, no more Linux adventures (except for the live versions)... :S

Kane,

I never used stock roms for more than few minutes... I hate bloatware! lol
The very first thing I always do as soon I buy a new phone is to flash a custom rom. ;-)

Back when I was picking beans in Ubuntu,we used to make fresh coffee right off the trees. Who is Linux? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Fedora tell it, anybody could have worked for Linux. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone.

been Noushed lately?

If your phone is already bricked -- than what's the risk of unbricking it? Not like you'll break it any further. :P

Sounds interesting! I think I'll get a Live version of it soon. :)
