Just wanted to say that we (Britain) are thinking of everyone in anyway affected by this.

Victims, emergency workers and everyone else.

Having lived across the river from Boston for four years, this is hitting home rather hard for me. My wife is a runner, and once aspired to qualify for Boston, as it is the dream of many amateur long distance athletes. Talk about innocent victims. Just out to support their loved ones in a milestone endeavor, and maybe some of the runners themselves. The people who perpetrate this sort of evil are not people at all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to victims and victims' families.

Terrible news. Very disturbing footage of a despicable act. The explosions look like low energy blasts from home made explosives (probably ammonium nitrate based). No doubt they were laced with improvised shrapnel, or 'dockyard confetti' as we called it in the bad old days of Northern Ireland. Considering the devices used and the soft target chosen, this appears to be the work of a 'home grown' terrorist with some rudimentary knowledge of explosives and a few hundred dollars to spare. If so, it will not take long to catch him. As with the London bombers, there will be CCTV give aways and circumstantial evidence aplenty.
That is my own analysis based on what I've seen on TV and on line. I hope I'm right in saying that this is not part of an organised, systematic campaign. It is more likely a one off attack by a lone individual or small group. I know it offers no comfort to the victims, but it is still perhaps worth pointing out.
My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Rest assured the perpetrator(s) will be caught and brought to justice.

It is awful to make comparisons, because even one death is unacceptable, but there was a wave of bombings in Iraq today that killed 50 and injured 300 innocent people. Thank goodness for the relative security we enjoy.

Well, as I suspected would happen, they're dead or captured in a few days. Amatuers versus the FBI. Although some, possibly many, will wonder how the attackers slipped through, rember that one of the costs living in a free country is that the bad guys usually get to take the first shot. We have to accept this.
It's really important now that there's no martydom or celebrity attributed to these murderers, because they can attract copycats. I have no doubt that these Chechens, although ideologically very different, would have been motivated by the sensational Norwegian Nazi mass killer story.
Here's the next issue. Does anyone, like me, feel at least a bit of sympathy for the 19 year old kid in custody? Was he really in control of his decisions? How will this play out in court?
Boston is safe again, but this story has a long way to go. Terrorism plays as much in our minds as it does on the battlefield. I grew up with the IRA. I can assure you that moral and legal legitimacy is the only way to go. Don't be vengeful, don't be discriminatory. Just be be true and balanced. Use the law, not emotion.

Not a bit of sympathy... His actions killed a child, + others, and maimed people for life. Not people who chose to volunteer for some army, but regular innocents that were just out and about for fun. As he is an American citizen, I believe he deserves a trial. If he is convicted in said trial, personally I think a public hanging is in order. But... I'm the kind of guy who would put his head on a post on I95 at the Boston city limits, basically to deter further actions like those. Serious wrong must have serious consequences. If not.... If we spend all of our time trying to "understand" these idiots, the flow of them is never going to stop. All one has to do is look at the steady dose of this crap that we are dealing with (Newtown, Aurora, Boston, and so on) and they know that we are not serious about this yet.

I hate to say it, as I have many friends of the Islamic persuasion . But if Islam wants a place in a modern evolving world, then decent Muslims have to start cleaning up Islam. I hear this from decent Muslims, that they would never shop or hand over to the authorities a brother in Islam, no matter what they had or planed to do simply because they are Muslim and Allah only should be their judge and executioner. That's the mentality we must deal with and change.

Sadly, yet another example of extremism attempting to tear down civil society. At least one survived to go through our process of rule of law. That is certainly more than he and his brother gave to the innocents in Boston. However, it was heartening to see the people of Watertown get out to applaud the efforts of law enforcement to bring this animal to heel...

And kudos Mr. Biggs for your accurate predictions. You pretty much had these guys pegged. As with the IRA and Al Queda, its really sad that the engine for this terror often stems from radicalized religious beliefs... You'd think we'd have learned something from the Inquisition or Crusades...

I have Muslim friends and they all view Al Qaeda in the same way that the vast majority of Christians view the Westboro Baptist Church and other fundamentalist fringe groups.

Washington, April 21 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The Czech ambassador to the US has expressed concern over remarks in the US social networks wrongly aiming his Central European country over the Boston Marathon terror attack for Chechan rebels.

Dozens of messages accusing the Czechs of terrorism and even calling for US retaliation against the Czech Republic appeared in the US segments of Twitter and Facebook Friday after reports emgerged that the two suspects in Boston Marathon bombing had Chechen origins.

"As more information on the origin of the alleged perpetrators is coming to light, I am concerned to note in the social media a most unfortunate misunderstanding in this respect," Czech Ambassador Petr Gandalovic said in a statement.

The bombing suspects -- Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19 -- were said to be members of a family originally from Chechnya. It lies in the volatile North Caucasus region of Russia where federal forces have been battling Islamist insurgents for years.

"The Czech Republic and Chechnya are two very different entities - the Czech Republic is a Central European country (that was originally a part of Czechoslovakia); Chechnya is a part of the Russian Federation," Gandalovic pointed out. The two countries are about 2,730 km apart.

The diplomat reminded the bloggers that "the Czech Republic is an active and reliable partner of the United States in the fight against terrorism".

"We are determined to stand side by side with our allies in this respect, there is no doubt about that," Gandalovic said.

While Tamerlan, 26, was killed in a gunfight with police, Dzhokar, 19, was captured Friday night from a boat in a yard of a residential house in suburban Watertown after a massive manhunt that virtually shut down Boston, one of America's oldest cities.
