We are all here to play a game I'm assuming*. If we have any disagreements...which we will. Can I suggest two things? First if they are personal between a few pilots make a little private message group and hash it out there. If it involves some type of gameplay or strategy that involves gameplay or lack thereof start a thread. That way if it gets out of hand or non-productive or just plain insane a mod can lock the topic. Don't try and solve issues in a Squad thread. To moderate out the problem a mod will have to delete posts and in general make a mess of things as we do not want to lock a established thread. Just looking ahead to the day we all forget to take our medicine** and create a mess no one can be proud of.

What is your opinion on starting an overtly political or controversial thread? Those who choose to participate know what they are getting themselves into from the getgo.

I have seen other forums where such threads separated into a completely separate category (like we have squadrons, gossip, feedback, etc) for current events, politics, and the like.

Personally I wouldn't participate as they tend to lean to the most aggressive posters and not to any real truths. This forum is about a game. A great game that has created a great community. Starting topics about current events will happen. Using this site to promote beliefs, politics, religions in a long term manner are not in my opinion good for the forum.
There are other dedicated places on the internet to post your heart felt beliefs on any subject. I don't believe this game was created for any particular type of person and by making it about one of them we will discourage others from enjoying this game.

I would find it interesting to know

a) how many people who play regularly would participate in the discussion, and

b)how many are familiar enough with the issues that there would be a lively discussion.

I would be more than willing to enter into political discussions and also discussions based on our (true) history. This would be chance to share issues from the past and also on the present. I am certain that the discussions will be held in a proper fashion...The hot heads would be dealt with. Here on the forum, we should be able to discuss these issues without prejudice.

I don't like political conversations on here. I know karma doesn't mean anyone who is active but to someone new it does. If I were to post something bad about a canidate I would get my karma lowered a lot as we have seen. New people will soo that (possibly negative) karma and think I am a truble maker or a spammer. So I stay clear od controversy.

Actually, as a secessionist, I'm with Princip, at least in principle (pun intended), but not in method.

As a libertarian, I am against encroaching on another's person (assassination) or property. Self protection is another thing altogether, of course, and many argue that a preemptive strike can be construed as self protection. That doesn't hold water in libertarian circles, of course. You don't start violence, but you can sure finish it.

Self determination; very hard to get back once you (as a people) are defeated militarily and absorbed into some larger entity, but not impossible. May take generations. Needs collective memory and collective will to achieve.

I think it was bad. It was the one event that igbited the europe "powder keg". I mean one event lead to a war involving he whole world killing millions of people.
