The same traits any leader should have.

We learned a certain set of traits that was taught in SLS, using the acronym JJDIDTIEBUCKLE ("JayJay did tie buckle")

JUSTICE, JUDGEMENT, DECISIVENESS, INTEGRITY, DEPENDABILITY, TACT, INITIATIVE, ENDURANCE, BEARING, UNSELFISHNESS, COURAGE, KNOWLEDGE, LOYALTY, ENTHUSIASM.

We called them the 14 Leadership Traits. Still remember 'em today!

That's a text book answer and life does not always operate that way; I'm sure you are aware of that. Everyone one has all of those qualities to some degree but to say everyone did them all efficiently or good would not be true, with the exception of only a few. Most leaders that I admire have the quality to quickly understand problems and remove barriers that create those problems; they also understand people and are compassionate about people and process. How this translates into a DF Squad Leader or Commander is perhaps up for discussion. These are only my thoughts on a few aspects of leadership.
