Hey since we are all into flight and areodynamics to some degree, anyone throw boomerangs before or still? I design, craft, and compete. And I will answer the top 5 questions right now:
1. Yes a boomerang does return
2. No they cannot kill an animal if you hit one with it, those were throwsticks that do not return. (Exceptions: if you threw a carbon fibre long distance with sharp edges you might hurt something but that is now not historically.
3. Yes they do have competitions but the sport is small so the competitions aren't on tv or anything.
4. I make them out of wood, carbon fibre sheets, G10 G11 G12 fiberglass cloth with epoxy resin, Paxolin, aluminum, any other stiff plastic sheets...
5. Yes I can catch them, quite easily and it's a lot of fun
Cool boomerang info:
In an event fast catch (throw and catch a boom with 20m range 5 times asap) the boomerang is travelling over 120 mph as it goes around
The longest throw with a return is 238m, and that is the distance from the thrower to the furthest point it reaches and must come all the way back without touching the ground and cross a line extended 20m either side of the thrower.
