I got my private pilot's license in college. It was always a dream of mine, being a model plane nut and majoring in aero engineering. I worked at a hangar on one end of the airport, and went to the flight school on the other end for weekly lessons. But the lessons tapped me out, and I never had funds to keep it up. After graduating, the Fun Budget was going toward RC helis and frequent travels for competitions, and "full scale" flying never happened, except occasional rides with my buddy who eventually became a commercial pilot.
I recall going up in a glider with a friend once. Flying with a stick was really cool. But I am prone to motion sickness, so I did not enjoy much of the flight. Then the landing... to a power pilot, glider landings are dead-stick-by-choice, with no option for a go-round! Seemed like a silliness to me
Recent years with marriage and kids, all that comes to mind is that line on the life insurance form asking if I fly airplanes or sky dive. I assume that my premiums would increase if I said Yes, so I have consciously chosen not to take up yet another time consuming and bucks-busting activity! My other rationale is that my color blindness has me guessing at things like vasi lights. Not good!
