Snooping around, I've discovered how to enter the ships hull (all the way down below) through the wall on the starboard side of the bridge. On the older version, you could enter the ships midlevel interior through another "secret" wall and shoot all the planes up! This may have been found already but thought I post it anyway. Not that there's any good use for it, just thought it was interesting.

I remember going down there once by accident. The entrance point I went through was somewhere near the stern.

It gave me the "you are sinking" message, however, and I was forced to respawn.

I used to do that.When the water would rise and give you that message I found a little ledge to climb on to to stay alive.

If you look very close to the right corner of the bottom picture (above) you'll notice a slightly different color.
By using an Orten filter you see this:

It's difficult to aim when soldier on ground or ship. By I have also fell below. I'm glad you can't stay on boats nomore in capture carrier games.

Oh cool, don't know what an orten filter is but that's exactly the spot you drop in from the top...interesting

I'll tell sometimes its crucial to land inside but I'm just now figuring out how to get turned around once inside instead of crashing when time runs out. I just love shooting someone who's inside while landing.
