Its a glitch on the game

The possible glitches that I have come accross

Carrier and Zeppelin
Carrier and dogfight
Carrier on land and Zeppelin
Carrier on land

this doesnt happen only in this game. i play Birds of Steel ( ww2 dogfight sim ) on xbox. a couple of the maps are glitched like this....carriers in the middle of a field or side of a mountain...a bridge in the middel of the ocean. at least here you dont have trees blocking your take off from the carrier...lol
