I recently saw "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". I give it 9/10. The filmography was simply stunny, it truly captured the expanses of Kentucky, Missouri and other places toured by the James Brothers. It is said to be the most accurate account of what happened between Jesse James and Robert Ford, and was even acclaimed by the modern descendants of both.
The acting? Perfect. Brad Pitt captured James like I've never seen done before in any Western film with the James boys.
The soundtrack -- beautiful. So good I had to get it myself. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis really outdid themselves on this one.
The movie came second to "No Country for Old Men" (released the same year). Don't bother watching if you're into your Michael Bay movies filled with nonstop explosions to entertain young America, boring dialogues, no character progression, etc.
The Verdict: This movie goes far beyond of an usual Western film. Unfortunately, the slow and meditative style appeals more to hardcore Western fans rather than the mass audiences who only go to see long, complicated, unnecessary action scenes. The beauty of this movie is more based on images, music and expressions. It's visually and intellectually rich, in my opinion for its explorations on the decaying psyche of this famous outlaw.
Overall, I give it 9 out of 10 slenderhands.
