Didn't have any problems other than being out of practice. Actually, I did see a plane keep flying after I shot it down. It supprised me, but it disappeared shortly after. Once there's the message that it's down, stop shooting. See you in the skies!

All these things can happen with data lag (poor signal). Not saying that's your case, but these (plus other planes flying very very qiickly) have happened to me when I am in that corner of the house with iffy wifi. A good in-game test for data connection quality is to send a text. I just send a period and hit return. Some days, it takes a second or two to register so I know my data connection is very sketchy.
