This is a thread for those guitar / axe players out there. Il start us off......

I currently have a custom strat - its a work in progress at the moment and ive chosed my artwork, locking tuners and got my main hardware. Im going with.black and then im getting me, my girlfriend and my kids put on the back in a black/white clear vinyl (see queen - bohemian rhapsody video - that kind of thing.) Ive named it "familia ante omnia" whitch means family for eternity in latin. Ive got a couple of bits still to get (its routed for any pickups i want) and those are a nice chuncky black leather strap - new scratchplate (depending on pickups) and the pickups and 500k pots. im looking at the irongear hammerhead humbucker (bridge) and an irongear jailhouse rail (single coil sized blade humbucker for mid & neck) as i loe metal but also love the yngwei malsteen style solo work. (the bridge is big output for heavy work and the blade rails are a lighter almost thrashy metal - early metallica when distorted vibe) so thats where im at - please feel free to comment or add your own projects / guitars n stuff. so grab a chair n il get the jack daniels flowin'.

I've been playing for 15 years now. Really I'm a bass player, but learned guitar first which made learning bass easier. My electric is a an Ibanez AXS32 - sweet little guitar with a Gibson SG feel that was definitely underpriced for what it was. I would eventually like to get some real Seymour Duncan's in, because I agree, it stinks when you want a sound and you just can't get it. I play right now through a 30w Peavey Vypyr with the Sanpera II pedal. Wonderful rig if you want lots of options but don't want to drop $2,000+ on an amp and pedal board. My acoustic is a a Yamaha 12 string - it's a beauty. My bass is a Peavey Dynabass which is probably about as old as I am but plays great. My other fun toy is my homemade (not by me) upright bass I got in Mexico. It's a beast but with a little help from a real luthier it turned out to be a playable instrument. I will try to post some pics later.

I'll be living on this thread :woohoo:

I love cheap used guitars from the pawn shop or craiglist!!!!!!!!!!

last week I found a acoustic guitar on craiglist free section. YES I CHECKED THE FREE UNWANTED SECTION

I gave it to my friend who plays bass with us

My guitar playing journey started with drums

then I got my hands on a Punjabi folk instrument called a Ek Taar, its a predecessor to guitar, it only has one string so you cant do any chords or stuff but it teaches you really good rhythm. Best of all they are dirt cheap like 10 dollars or something.

I bought my first guitar because I wanted an electrical ek taar and found out nobody's ever made one. So the guitar lets me play the Ek taar with the added bonus I can do polyphonic chords on it for the heavy parts in songs

I have a bc rich warlock and a fender right now

various peavies, voxes and line 6 amps n cabinets up to a half stack

this is how i fly !!! :)

OK I have been playing for 16 years and in that time I have acquired a few guitars (probably too many since I never sell anything) I'll try to list them chronologically. Epiphone PR-100 acoustic, Squire Strat, Santa Rosa 6-string banjo, '03 Fender Highway 1 HSS Strat(made in USA), New York Pro mini acoustic, Owcar Schmidt of some kind, an acoustic that I can't remember the name of, a 1960s Japanese Mayfair, 2 unnamed 60s Jap guitars, a Yamaha bass, and a few other stringed instruments that I can't think of at the moment. I also have quite a few "blanks" that I started building in my shed. Hopefully within the next few years I will be manufacturing guitars outta the shed, I have the equipment and know how, just need the time.

I play a little guitar, not much more than chord. I'm a keyboard player. I used to do a lot of sequencing for smaller groups that did 50's and 60's music in Vegas lounges. I went to high school with Mark Slaughter, we sang barbershop music together.

If you build it, I will come.......and bomb it !!!

Hey Mad,

I read a lot of reviews about the Line 6 Spiders and the Peavey Vypyrs. I personally am a big Peavey fan so I picked the Vypyr, but Line 6 defnitely makes some great stuff too and they were my second pick after the Vypyr.

I have three acoustic guitars, but my latest (and favorite) is a Taylor Grand Symphony in indian rosewood and spruce (816ce). Gorgeous warm tones and loud, vivid bass. I play a lot of 60's & 70's, Bread, Beatles, Eagles, and the occasional modern pop (that's slow enough for me to keep up). While strumming is fun, I like fingerpicking and flatpicking a lot.

A good litmus test for "what do you like to listen to" is: when scanning radio stations in the car, what songs/bands will you *always* stop at. For me, it's:
- Anything Zeppelin
- Anything Rush
- Anything Queen
- Then the 60's and 70's songs that I like to play on guitar and piano

So there's somewhat of a dichotomy between what I like to listen to and what I can play. Yes, of course I'd love to get an electric guitar and play all of it! Well, a lot of Rush would require talent way beyond my fingers, but one can dream. (My alarm clock ringtone is the intro to The Spirit of Radio - a great wake up!)

Manfred

Thanks Kazee, i thought they were good yeah, basically i live metal/heavy rock and i cant get the tone from my pedal so i looked at amps with built in effects and the lune 6 sounds great but obviously its the build/reliability that i was after because you never know unless you play one lots and i didnt want to be going through a list of amp after amp and so on until i spent like £2000 on a decent valve amp lol - its cool that you guys all know these things as it sure helps!!!

I started off with an epiphone flying v which had a custom (pink floyd dar side of the moon) airbrushed paintjob - it got stolen!!!!!

my second guitar was a tanglewood barretta twin - see below......

this one is identical to my old one - this was the best guitar ive ever played.

then i got hold of a vintage tele that had a great sound. (still got it at my dads place)
and on my 21st birthday i got a dean ml - x shaped axe (great but unplayable - the painted neck just wanted to grip and i tried lubing it etc but no joy.

now ive got my new toy, its a cheap strat replica but its a lefty (im lefthanded) and i thought id look at one but they were like $1000 new for a budget one! then i saw one on ebay for $100 from germany and i thought ok, if i need to change the neck and hardware then the body alone is worth it???????

two days later and i plugged her in for the first time - oh my god!!!!
it had a lower action and faster neck than my dads burns brian may "factory custom" signiture edition!!! its faster than his hohner headless and his green burst les paul! it doesnt go out of tune easily either so i decided to upgrade and turn a fast guitar with bad hardware into a full on war machine! its gonna be a while but im getting parts for christmas then il get the artwork and hopefully by sometime before i retire (im 31 lol) il have her up and running!

Sorry to disappoint you, but its not a les Paul and its not purple. Lol just bad lighting I guess. That's the Oscar Schmidt and its a light metallic blue. I took a couple more pics but it still doesn't look the same.

Still this one is my "baby". The only thing I changed on it is the saddles. It had the thin bent metal classic style saddles that wouldn't allow me to raise the action where I like it so I swapped em for Graphtech saddles. Oh and I put Ernie Ball "not even slinkys" on it.(heaviest strings I have found)

as of 22nd nov ive added a design to the back. the numbers signify the d.o.b of my familly.

This is how it should look once its been clear-coated (much deeper though)
