That's the only evasive maneuver I know.
You can try to alternate with vertical circles in between the horizontal ones!
Also if you're shot at head-on by a pilot who flies lower than you, diving is a good idea. He will have problems following you, or may even crash into the ground. Over the lakes this is especially effective, because if you don't keep an eye on the altimeter it's difficult to know how close to the surface you are.
