What glory is there in shooting those that are barely taken off the runway or the flight deck?
If you see me coming and you’re still over the runway, look for my salute, I won’t shoot, I’ll just flyby. I would text the message “salute” but I’d probably get shot down. I get shot down enough this way :) so texting not a good option for me. However, as soon as you clear and turn to shoot; it’s on.
(I digress here but I think it would be hilarious to see pilot’s texting while they’re in the cockpit if we actually were typing a message at that time).
Two questions:
1. Why doesn’t one pilot salute the other pilot that’s out of ammo and that just put up a good fight? I know we can’t always tell unless they make an announcement; however, I think we all know that the pilot that flies in, destroys 2- 3 planes, bombs hangers, and then destroys 3 to 4 more planes (in the air) just kicked some “a”. Then, if you see them weaving up and down; smoking back to their base, they’re probably out of ammo and I say, “good job – see you on the next run”. And if I want to prove something, I try and shoot that pilot down when he’s fully loaded up and dropping hot brass and smoking lead in my direction. For me at least, it’s a much better feeling if I shoot that pilot down that way.

2. Who are those that leave when all appears to be lost? One of my best firefights (if not the best) was with another pilot that hung around when we only had two hangers left and with the red team coming at us with about 4 veterans that included two AC’s, one BG and on G; there were also one or two rookies. We got shot down left and right but we hung in there; crawled back from hell and won. Conversely, I’ve been on the other end of that stick where every blue pilot bugged out. I stuck it out and got shot down more times than I care to talk about.
Anyway, not the point of my pontifications ;) but I think it’s worthy to note the pilots name that stood fast and did not break the line of battle when all was lost (or at least the appearance of); which I believe was Pamelot – I’m not sure – I just know it reminded me of Camelot (sorry if I slaughtered your name) :S . That pilot’s connection was lost right before the victory, so they never got the win :( .

Excellently written! It's Pamalet I believe! Excellent pilot. But do realize some pilots get phone calls ect. that knock them off or have something more important to do in the real world so don't hold it against them! Also there are posts about the spawn killing! I myself don't do it unless I'm getting teammates in to bomb. But it's generally regarded as a game tactic and it goes on. People will shoot you down as your gliding in to kill a tank spawn killing only to get shot down themselves and proceed to get spawn killed 3 times by that very tank then type something stupid and leave.

There are all kinds here and generally we all get along!

When Squad Wars start that type of gallantry will sure to shine! For now it's a mixed bag of fun!

I agree, very well put Black Flag! I always try to stay to the end even if i'm losing horribly. I was in a game not to long ago there was a lonely aspirant who was against 4 or 5 high ranking oppenents, myself being one of those pilots, the name of the aspirant eludes me at this time, but the aspirant stayed to the very end of the game. Kudous to that pilot and all the others out there that show this type of effort to try their best to complete the mission! :cheer:

Well done black flag.........I too would lime to see gentlmanship in this game....i usually type "out of ammo" but that seems to get me shot down all the faster......I tend to stay till the whole game is done, but i constantly get calls/texts on my phone ( which is one of my business phones). This causes me to get disconnected from the game. Anyother time i leave the game early is because of laaaaaaag and glitch ( which is often..lol)

.I discovered the same thing during the PHOTOPLANE experiment. Most were respectful, others not as much.
I wrote down names of people who constantly shot me down. Now THEY get to be targets!

Thats how u get better fast. by fighting against aces. When I was a aspirant, I got destroyed over and over again by samweb, whitenow, tony69, thunderstorm, plane killer, chan. But I still stayed I got better thanks to them and now I can finally beat all f them. Mentioned here only not everyone in game. Now they complain about getting destroyed. Dentinhead is getting better as well, I used to kill him over and over, but soon he is gonna be able to beat me easily (I can barely beat him now), like hoop I use to kill him easily in chasing but now I cant even get xlose to beating him.

Good stuff black flag ! It is one of the quirks of the game that the teams are often unevenly matched I always offer encouragement to aspirants or teams low on members to stick it out if they are getting slaughtered in bomb the carrier/ destroy airport modes, in my opinion that is the best way to learn to outsmart the aces and learn to cope under pressure.

Offering encouragement to lower ranks on opposing teams also prevents them losing their rag and getting abusive which is common and spreads real fast to the other aspirants in the game .
Flying as farkinell and numerous other unmentionables.

Uneven teams add spice to the game. Its much more interesting to have to hold off 7 aces alone than 4v4. ;)

Very well written, btw! Welcome to the forum! :) :)

Three things:

1 - About "out of ammo" messages, in my early flights, I used to state that too, hoping fair-play from reds - but no success: always got destroyed in my way back to base. So, now I simply auto-destroy, after figuring out that there is no penalty for doing that. When I see someone saying that, I always leave him go back to his base. But unfortunately, not every player take this behavior... So, the solution for this issue is simple: auto-destroy everytime you run out of ammo.

2 - About spawnkilling, I can't understand how some people still do this after all that was said on this forum... So, one possible solution is: could Zuperman do some fix to make planes immune to bullets (and harmless too!) during some seconds after spawning? Just a suggestion, though...

3 - About leaving the game with no apparent reason (and that's the main reason I am posting): I think that, being Dogfight a mobile game, most people play it on weird circumstances (inside their cars waiting for their wifes on a shopping, or inside a bathroom, or in the dentist's waiting-room, etc.). And people uses to make some emergency tasks - for example: I have a 10 years old little daughter that requires full-time attention, and she is the main reason for my airplane crashes (I crash a lot!) and for my sudden "disappearances" from the game. So, lets just take it easy when someone suddenly leaves the game, guys. After all, it's just a game!

It was really rhetoric meant stimulate thought and conversation. And I can tell those players that drop out when the going gets tough. As for everyone else: Accidents happen; power dies, connections lost and life just freakin happens
- I get that.

And yes. There are still spawnkillers; teamkillers. It's not as bad as it was but I also think its seasonal. Lets see what happens when summer break comes around. But don't get wrong, there are plenty of awesome players, most are in sqadrons..others are not. That's just my experience.

Anyway, I really appreciate your comments, and you sound like you play the game the right way.

Thank you,

Black Flag

I’d also like to add that I’ve seen comments from other players that they some other players need to relax and not get too upset about things because, after all, it’s just a game. And I agree with that statement; no game is worth ruining your day. However, notwithstanding, I do believe that they way we play a game and how we act in a game is a little window into who that person really is. I’m not saying that’s the way it is; just merely an observation.

Don't save ammo. Use what you need. Kill who you can with what you've got.

Don't take running out of ammo as a bad thing, it's good in two ways. #1: It shows that you can survive long enough to run out of ammo. #2: You can spin around on the way home, occupying multiple enemies.

black flag, you put it superbly - good manners cost nothing and it is a fact that in ww1 the pilots were enemies but had a gentlemens code.....

do not shoot a man who has obvious gun jam issues, and always fight fair.
many times if an enemy was i.d.-able a reath was flown and dropped over the enemy base to inform them of the pilot they lost and who shot him down. this game is based on ww1 so i wholehartedly agree that putting up a fair fight is key to keeping the game honourable and also this makes you some good allies ingame as people notice your actions. i also flyby a plane that hasnt lifted off, i give them timd to get their bearings and then when we are both ready we go at it hell for leather.

i commend you black flag - a true gentleman.

This guy was on a hill behind my base and he shot me as soon as I spawned this went on for 9 times and finaly I said" please stop it u spawnkiller!!!" He said" ok one more time" and shot me. He stopped doing that but I yearned my plane around and dropped my bomb on him. Ahhhhh karma gotta love it!!!!

I've thought about this and I think Im done...not sure if I can really leave but not so sure I can come back either. Anyway, if this is it...well...I wanted to go out the same way I came in. The above was my first post and now my last.

All I can say is that it was one hell of a run and I can't ask for much more than that.

Well, it's late for me now...time to jump in the old fart sack and call it a night. See you all on the flip side.

Black Flag out.

If I'm out of ammo, i like to either 1) fly back and forth, low to the ground, just outside enemy territory, so I gt shot down and hop into a tank in good range, or 2) (if i have teammates) loop around in circles until a teammate passes me and picks the red up. I don't mind being shot while out of ammo, because if they want to waste theirs on someone who's currently completely harmless, that's fine.
You're getting predictable, guys. You can do better, right?

Very true.. and a most excellent post..

Funny thing.. a few days ago for doing the EXACT SAME THING as written as #1 I was called a POS (Piece Of S#*%!) by a high ranking MORAF of another squadron.. I won't mention which one.

I fought my way to their base.. bombed 2 of their hangars.. then proceeded to shoot them down IN THE AIR a couple/few times each.. (without a SINGLE spawnkill!) I crashed while trying to evade their fire as I was leaving & then when I re-spawned turned on mission chat & saw that remark.

Very Classy.. you know who you are.
