My recent understanding about multiplayer games is that as you progress in level, you progress in a type of player pool of like-leveled pilots; however, if you hop in an old plane you still cant fly with some of your old wingmen. Is this true?

This is true. It dont matter if you are in a spitfire or a neport. There is two groups in the game the low ranks 1-17 and the high ranks 17-47 . It dosnt matter what fighter your in. The rank your at determines the people you play with.

I didnt no that was the split. Makes it hard to recruit when you dont see a pilot till rank 17 if they make it that long before quiting. I wonder if Zup could have pilots over level 8 get bounced into our tier once every 5 plays so they can meet the community and get brought into the fold. I no this brings noobs getting slaughtered argument. Open to feedback if anyone is interested in exploring this option

So, I'm not lvl 17, what makes it more fun? Are first tier planes ever used in the 2nd tier player pool?

(Edit) so far I'm guilty of never flying my N11 when I can fly my dr1.
It's too bad that upper pool can't fly the lowest tech vs the lower pool flying middle to "upper" tech grade (tech 3 and 4, maybe 5). Perhaps it could make up the difference between pilot skills?

The further you are from a server the better your game play experience will be, if you are one of the unfortunate people that have a server in your country get ready for disappearing , skipping , teleporting being shot while nobody is close to you and laser beam shots, and the always great planes shooting from the side, the disappearing plane coming at you and reappearing behind you is world class. If you have a server in your country then practice kicking yourself in the forehead it's a lot funner.
