From the announcement about squad wars and vault points:

There is a ranking system that you can see....
I'm working the UI for the game, but the stats are there.
What it does is the following:
- Every kill you get, it will check if the other person is in a different squadron and then add the result to your stats and squadron points.
- Every enemy hangar you bomb, it also adds points to the squadron.
- More points will be added little by little (still working on it, on things like bombing the carrier and so on).
The idea is that whatever good any member of your squadron does, it will have a positive impact on your squadron statistics.
So the points for squad wars are not all the same points as players earn in game. Points earned for wins and losses are not counted, shooting down squad mates doesn't count for or against, Zeppelin games don't affect squad wars. Things that count may change with any update.
The Vault points are a whole different matter. That is based upon total points earned by all of the players of a squad. When you earn points you also put just as many points into your squad's vault. All of the points that go into the vault are then evenly distributed as "coins" to each squad member. (Coins are useful for purchasing planes, upgrades, etc...) If a squad member doesn't collect their coins, their share of the coins expire. So if someone has not checked in for more than 7 days they are wasting a resource which other members of their own squad have earned.
So when someone is "point farming" by only playing empty games, shooting zeppelins, etc... they are increasing their rank and adding to the squad vault but they are only contributing points for hangars (or carriers if Zup has added that yet) toward squad wars. Lol, in fact if someone in your squad is focusing only on downing the Zeppelin while defenders are shooting them down over and over, they are earning rank points for themselves and coins for the squad vault, but they are decreasing your squad's Squad Wars status.
