Hey y'all, I'm a noob to DF, but I thought I'd chime in here on some of my favorites:

My EDC is the Kershaw Packrat (model 1665).. It is assisted opening, has the partial serrations, which I find useful from time to time. It has a G10 handle and 14C28N steel

If you want a lighter knife, the Kershaw leek (also assisted opening) is a wicked little knife, and comes in a whole bunch of variations, with different handles, colors, grip materials, etc.

For a big fixed blade, if you have the coin, look at Treeman Knives: my favorite is the 7.5 inch Ultra Phalanx,

or, much less expensive, a Kukhri.

I totally feel dem feels. Gotta love the satisfying feeling of getting your knife sharp enough to easy cut hair. My Fox Karambit came very very sharp (enough to cut hair). But I put a bit more work in the angles and got it literally as sharp as a straight razor. Which is both good and bad.

Good because it's more effective.

Bad because -- I'm going to have to buy a trainer karambit after the last cut I got while training with it.

Whoa! Very nice collection! You seem like an aficionado as well.

How are you liking the G10 grip? This Fox Karmabit is my first experience with the material. And I gotta say -- I'm very pleased. It's genius.

No, Calvin. Goggle "AliExpress" and search for "OEM FOX KARAMBIT". Sorry I don't have the exact web address handy. It's the black one for about $35.

It's more of a punching weapon, in this case, the flintlock additions would deliver the killing blow after the blade was thrust into the victim,

Specifically, it's a punching dagger, which I just found out, so, it's related to knives, but the difference is intended function, daggers thrust, knives cut.
But, did you know, that in India (where the katar originated) that upper-class Mughals (spelling?) Would hunt tigers with katars, and to succeed would be held as the surest sign of bravery and martial skill

Calvin, just remembered that there some authentic Fox Karambit knives on Ebay but, they are high priced like on Fox website. I just did not want to spend that much money.

Yeah -- you can get the Chinese version if you wanted Calvin.

I own both a genuine Fox Karambit (Italian made) and the Chinese version. To be honest...there's no difference. I first purchased the Chinese version and I have used it for half a year. I soon bought into that "Chinese stuff is all garbage" and got the actual Italian version. It was disappointing to be honest. Even the Chinese version came sharper than the Italian model.

Things in common:

-Both have G10 grip. And the Chinese version is actually finer, allowing better grip.
-There is absolutely no "blade play" (jigglying) with both knives. Which is damn good for a Chinese knife.
-The "wave" is angled slightly differently on the Chinese model. However, it's still just as easy to deploy.

Differences:

-The logo is slightly larger on the Chinese model. The "KARAMBIT" in the cool Indonesian writing is the same.
-The serial number is placed differently on the Chinese model. Could care less.
-Italian model came as sharp as a butter knife. Not even kidding.
-Italian model uses Cobalt steel as opposed to the Chinese model. However, I know the Chinese isn't crap 440. It's very strong and has held an edge very very well.
-The Chinese model is slightly heavier. This is a good thing in my case as I love a heavier knife.
-The packaging on the Chinese model is crap. But you didn't buy this knife for the cardboard, eh? ;)

If you want Calvin, I can hook you up with a Chinese Merchant I always buy from. She's always hooking me up with the coolest & latest things. PM me if you want a link.

:EDIT: I just realized -- one could probably pawn the Chinese model off for the actual version at a knife shop -- making a good $80-$100 profit, and buy another with more money. However, this is fraud. I don't recommend doing that. :P

oedius wrote: Slendy, isn't that "AliExpress"?

Aliexpress is simply a hosting website for merchants. Just like ebay.

However, my seller doesn't charge shipping and has all sorts of cool stuff.

Here's a link for you guys if you want the version I was talking about:

www.aliexpress.com/item/OEM-FOX-KARAMBIT...PPING/568631270.html

You have to watch out with whom you buy from on Aliexpress -- just like on ebay. However, my personal merchant (whose American name is Amy) is literally the best. If a shipment doesn't arrive after 20 days -- she'll personally check in with the China Post Air Mail statistics group and figure out what all happened. If on the off chance something gets lost, she has a 1 year refund or will simply re-ship. She also has other great stuff. I'm always buying from her, hahahah.

Like I said -- it may be Chinese; but the quality of this knife is crazy. Literally up to grade with the Italian model -- which is quite a feat for a Chinese model.

Oedius, be sure to take it out and shave some hair off. Guaranteed to feel your testosterone levels quadruple.

One more thing I've noticed with the Chinese model -- since it is slightly heavier, I've found it's much easier to flip around. Great momentum and balance in this knife. Get it guys. You wont regret it.

Give me a K-BAR and a .45 and I’m good. Sure, there’s a lot better out there; but both have stood the test of time. And, I’m no expert on this subject, but the most impressive knife I’ve ever seen was a handmade 8” blade made from a car leaf spring.
