I worked out there while i was going to Pulaski Tech for Aviation Maintenance Technology. Who was your flight instructor? Did you take lessons at Barrett Aviation by any chance?

How many years? The name sounds familiar. He wasn't there when i worked there but I'm sure i have heard the name. What did you fly when you were out there Cessna 150 or Piper Tomahawk?

Joe's old yellow front & back Cub and his helicopter. He was the legend in the 70's.....feels like 100 yrs. ago.

Could it have been Jack Davis? He practically lived out there and he was an airshow pilot in the 70's, along with Kenny Blaylock. Did he have a Pitts Special Biplane with the confederate flag painted on the top wing?

Sorry, you are right. It WAS Jack! He talked about getting the Pitts. I went into the Coast Guard before he got it. I'm glad to hear he got one. Thanks for the update. He was an incredible pilot.

Wow small world syndrome strikes again!I knew him since I was little. He bought a Piper Cub project from my neighbor, finished and sold it.
He passed a couple years ago, shortly after his wife.

Thank you for the update. We now have 2 more angels watching out for us. His wife was a lovely woman and very tolerant of his flying obsession.
Do you still live in NLR? If so, go to Ole Main's auditorium & look on top of the chandelier. I threw some playing cards up there in 1974. From the stage it was about 150 feet.

This is "Beacon Rock". Uncle Fly's house over looking the harbor.
Early settlers (1600's) used to build fires on top, to act as sort of a lighthouse. Hence, the name "Beacon Rock".
This house used to belong to Felix DeWeldon, where he designed and created the "Raising of the Flag" at Iwo Jima monument.
This is where Uncle Fly liked to throw his parties.
