Yesterday I was helping Mrs. Ghost with preparations for houseguests during the upcoming holiday so after my morning coffee I did not look at anything dogfight related for the rest of the day. When I got up this morning, and looked through the forum and other chats, as is my custom, all of yesterday’s posts hit me all at once. I have spent the day thus far, discussing with leadership and squad mates, and digesting yesterday’s events.


I must say I am very disappointed to see two of Dogfight’s most revered squads at one another’s throats! Like Comet, I too have enjoyed the rivalry between our squads. With that in mind, as M.O.M’s sitting tribal chieftain, I will not tolerate any attacks on M.O.M, or her sons and daughters, personal or otherwise. Therefore, with all due respect and no intention of “stirring the pot” I am bound by duty to respond:

First, I vaguely remember Cricket’s little poster referring to car addiction/drug addiction. At the time that poster was put up I had no idea that Comet and his family had had any problems of this nature of any kind, or I may have done something to moderate the post at the time. Be that as it may, while I understand Comet’s frustration and anger, it is important to note that the misfits had posted damn near an entire page worth of thinly vailed “bug” posters just before that. Was Cricket’s post a proportional or appropriate response? Perhaps it was and perhaps it wasn’t. In any event, it was part of a much larger back and forth with many guilty parties, and still a response to multiple previous attacks. I will be the first to admit that Cricket is a shrewd smart alec, but he is MY(m.o.m’s) shrewd smart alec and I will defend him and any other M.O.M on sheer principal, especially since, as far as I can tell, the incident is being used as ammunition for an attack weeks after the fact. If Comet or anyone else was offended, or thought the poster was over the line, they should have come to me, as the thread owner and the three or four of us would have worked it out privately. It should be noted that I had a conversation with Cricket today, after learning the significance of the poster.

Second, as far as portraying The Misfits as a big bunch of gay bikers, I have been aware of and contributed to this campaign. While I never saw, or noticed the association, and given cultural differences, I haven’t always understood Dixie’s humor I thought the whole thing was damn funny. There is not a doubt in my mind that Dix ever meant any real insult with his pictures or comments. Gizmo’s comment on the world chat seems to me to be a poke made in the same spirit, and as far as I’m concerned, PC aside, I don’t think anybody that knows Giz can honestly say he meant harm. Again, I would say anyone that had a real problem with it should have come to me. I also happen to be in possession of screenshots of a certain misfit calling a certain mom a “homo” because that misfit was being pinned to the runway. Some would disagree, but it seems a bit like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Third, Comet’s “enough is enough” thread seems to come completely out of the blue to me. To see M.O.M’s get what seems to be, and what I hope is, a temporary block so that cooler heads prevail saddens and irritates me. If things between M.O.M and The Misfits have gone far enough to warrant this, I cannot help but believe we both share the blame. However, I must take exception to several elements of Comet’s original post. Yes, our squad has had some troubles in the past and so have The Misfits, and often we have both publicly supported the other during hard times, to imply that Misfits have always taken the high road and we have not is complete nonsense. Furthermore, allow me to impart a little dogfight history of my own, just counting off the top of my head you have gained at least 8 and maybe as many as 12 to 13 marquee players from moms ranks during some period of strife or another. Now, maybe you poached them all and maybe they all approached you for membership, but seeing the numbers and the fact that a large majority of our members have become misfits at the very same moment they have decided to leave a very compelling argument could be made that the misfits have swooped in and poached what little strength we may have retained in hard times. It’s also important to point out that some of these players have gone on to be #1 world ranked. By my math these #1 world ranked misfits all started and made it to the top 3 as M.O.Ms. Correct me if I’m wrong, but has there ever been a #1 world ranked player that, as of the time they made #1 either been or had not spent more time as a MOM. It seems to me we have had little to no help or support from the misfits. Let’s be clear, there are no hard feelings, The Misfits have done what they had to do and I don’t fault them. But for Comet to suggest that we care about the world ranks while the misfits do not or that The Misfits are any more gentlemanly than we are is positively laughable. As far as controversial pilots leaving M.O.M when things got bad, it seems that our business and our business alone. All I will say is what I said before, M.O.M values ALL her sons and daughters, and I will defend them all.

MOM WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY ATTACK
There WILL NOT be any further discussion of anything controversial on the forum until further notice. I consider ALL beefs and conflict with the mom squad and its pilots over. It’s time to let bygones be bygones and move on. These will be the last adversarial words toward The Misfits, or any other pilot for that matter on any thread BY ANY M.O.M



My response to what I see as attacks aside, I do agree with the title of Comet’s post Enough IS Enough. Is there any reason either squad should be risking pilots or our squad’s themselves over silly childish internet drama? Our two squads represent the most senior, most respected and most feared players this game has ever seen. Should we really be bickering with one another when we share so much in common? I don’t think so.

As a businessman, I can see why Juaquin is so frustrated with our petty differences. I completely agree with his position in all this and I have sent him an email saying as much and offering M.O.M’s full compliance with TOS. As Zuperman feels a responsibility to the average squad less pilot who plays the game and nothing else, I must look out for the squad as a whole, above any one or small group of pilots.

I have spent my tenure as M.O.M’s owner of record seeing my primary role, less as a leader and more as an administrator. It seems I made an error in judgement. While I was aware of things going on within the squad, I have been un-aware of their tone or at least perceived tone. It seems I need to make some adjustments and be a more active participant.

I hope that someday, tomorrow, next week, month, year we can go back to having a rivalry. In the meantime, and until further notice I don’t want ANY M.O.M pilot making any kind of argumentative, negative or controversial statement, meme, or poster toward another pilot or squad on this or any other thread or in a PM. If you have a beef, bring it to me. If an outsider has a beef, I will be the one to handle it. Failure to respect my wishes could result in your expulsion from the squad. I enjoy controversy, rivalry, and smart assed remarks. But, it’s not worth losing our squad and all we have accomplished. I will not allow the squad to be at risk or allow its sons and daughters to risk themselves on its behalf. If anybody is going to risk anything it’s going to be me.

I have also reached out to the leadership at The Misfits in the hope we can let sleeping dogs lie and move on. We will probably never agree on much but I see no reason we cannot agree to disagree, move on and stop fighting beyond a good-natured rivalry. I have asked them to address any complaints with me, and while I see no reason they wouldn’t, should they refuse to do so I still expect M.O.M to bite its lip, notify me of the problem, and I will handle it.

I will be locking The M.O.M Thread for 46.3 hours so that any moms who are oblivious to todays events will have time to get with the program.

The thread is now unlocked. there will be a very big announcement within the next 48 to 72 hours. It will perhaps be the biggest announcement mom has ever made.

The day has finally come as some of you are aware, The Peoples Democratic Republic of M.O.M., much like Nazi Germany with Austria, has annexed a neighboring state with similar goals and interests. M.O.M. has essentially recruited more than 40 pilots in one fell swoop.


In the next couple of hours, you will see The Embers of Innocence change their name and merge with M.O.M.


In the next couple days, we will send our very own Minister of Justice to the newly formed sub squad. Some of you may have already noticed a member of their leadership has joined our ranks. In that same couple of days, you will see LILBADGAL and Huck join the council of Ministers, thus merging the leadership of our two squads into one. During this transition the name of every EOI pilot will be added to our page 1 roster, thus bestowing full M.O.M. status to each single one of them, to include all the benefits, burdens and hardships therein. We will be taking some of their players into the main squad and as we recruit we will replenish the newly formed sub squad with more quality players than ever.


In the next couple weeks, you will start to see our new brothers and sisters sporting traditional M.O.M. banners. Their female members will have a slightly different pink and black logo. Since it has been more than 3 years since M.O.M. has had a female member, let me remind you, their official status is a Mean Old Madame.



Given our common goals and their penchant for recruiting top quality pilots, this merger is one of the best things that could have happened to M.O.M. While we already have the monopoly on absorbing entire squads as part of our recruiting practices, this merger will go down in The Embers’ M.O.M.’s and Dogfight’s storied histories as absolutely legend.



The Embers will be leaving their thread up for the time being to direct any inactive players to their new home at the “Official M.O.M. Thread”.



As always please make M.O.M.’s new sons AND daughters welcome, and encourage them to visit the Forum and direct them as needed to the proper place on Palringo.
