Who could forget the keg, pony keg, or any one remember the party ball?

I used to play a lot of guitar and drink a lot of the above, amongst other things. Playing guitar is what turned me in to a metal head.

How would I be able to appreciate bands like Type O Negative (RIP Peter Steele), Slayer, Anthrax, Helmet, Korn, Prong, Pantara, Seputura, and so many other fantastic bands? My daughters are getting almost old enough to head bang :) Anthrax and Iron Maiden being their favorites B) Weird seeing little girls in all black just like their daddy...

Hahahah, I kid I kid! I used to listen to the stuff back in the day as well; Anthrax, Slayer, Crue & Iron Maiden being favorites. But I'd only consider Crue, Twisted Sister, Poison, etc to be real hair metal. Metallica is more Thrash Metal, Korn is "Numetal" and for me, etc.

I've always been more into the punk, alternative & new wave scenes. The Cure, Black Flag, Joy Division, etc. :)

Pantera is one of my all time favorites

Metallica would have to be Kill em all, garage day, and Justice For all. In that order. Ride the lightening and master of puppets are good but I think the whole albums are not as good as these. They used to be a favorite now I can't hardly listen to the new stuff. It is terrible

Poison being the worst hair of the worst. Remember the cover of Look at what the cat dragged in? They all look like chicks. Like the tunes though.

I dig a lot of Korn. Well the older stuff. When Head was still playing guitar and not a freak.

I've never really been a big fan of Metallica (they always seemed overhyped, hahahah); but I did have my phase. It seems that Metallica really went to crap with everything released after the Black album.

Yes, dudes looking like chicks..... Man that one still baffles me. How in the world did they turn it into something that so many chicks in the bus load would go after?
I remember walking into a buddy's room and he had a bunch of Crüe posters up.......... Ahhhh were not that type of friends bro.... Lol

But dang, the women still know whats up as soon as they hear the opening of Girls,Girls,Girls!
PARTY TIME!

My exact thoughts on Poison.

Yeah, I liked Korn's early stuff as well. Anymore, my brother and I just enjoy making fun of the song "Twist". Ridiculous.

But I think it's even funnier when performed live.

lolwut

In hindesight, I'm really glad this was all just a phase in high school, hahahah. I don't like any of this music anymore. I mostly listen to punk, alternative & indie nowadays. Lots of 60's & 70's too (Fleetwood Mac, Ramones, etc)

Bri don't tell me you didn't pick up a copy of Look at what the cat dragged in and say " wow those chicks are hot" only to find out they were dudes and feel dirty. :) lmao

Slendy the black album was the last of the goodness from Metallica in my opinion. Load and Reload are ok but they lost something when they finally hit the mainstream. Every one loved Enter sand man.

I saw them first time at Monsters of Rock in 87-88ish? after cliff past. Just before the real started gaining momentum. Hadn't made it to radio yet.

Yeah! That's what a I said, "...everything after the black album. I think it was the last good work by them as well. :)

UGH. Don't even get me started on "Enter Sandman". Yuck. I still remember overhearing a conversation at a pub that went,

(Girl 1) "Yeah, I'm a massive fan of and I love heavy metal music!"
(Girl 2) "omg really?! Like what?"
(Girl 1) "Enter Sandman by Metallica!"
(Friendzoned Betamale in their group) "R-really? What other songs do you like?"
(Girl 1) "Oh, that's the only heavy metal song I like. Rock on!"

My reaction precisely. ^

If there's one thing in the world I can't stand, it's when people are "massive fans of something" but only know one or two of the artist's works. This includes music artists, artists, writers, producers, etc.

Truly infuriating.

Yeah the Black Album was OK but waaaay too trendy for me. When all my jock friends started playing it at parties I knew this was not typical Metallica. I don't think I even have it in my collection and after that I don't even know any songs but Whiskey in a jar

Wow, I have not heard some of these songs in years. Great times. I may have to go look in my parents attic for my old tapes. Maiden was the best, but megadeath, old Metallica, and slayer were awesome.

How about Judas Priest (when Rob was still in the closet) or Ronnie James DIO? When we finally got cable I couldn't wait to get home and watch MTV (remember when they played music). Ran in the house, turned tv on, turned dial to ch22 (old school before digital push button with remote) " BAM Rainbow in the Dark!!!
