Davy.....I'm here and ready for class.....

The lesson we will go over for today is about the term "pejorative"...

pejorative is defined as follows in Webster's Dictionary: "a word or phrase that has negative connotations or that is intended to disparage or belittle"

pejorative in the Canadian Oxford Dictionary is a good definition and is defined as follows: "Used to refer to someone or something unfavourably. Thus the earlier sense of beast ‘large animal’ has been virtually replaced ..."

As you can see the Canadian Oxford Dictionary definition for pejorative is pejorative itself in its unfavorable view of "large animals" such as the "Camel" and may explain how some Canadian dogfighters have a less than favorable view of Swop.... :silly:   just kidding

......all this is in reference to Parrtohead referring me as "humpback".....as one can see this term he referenced to me is clearly "pejorative". :woohoo:   :P

I'm here as well and the medications are doing their job. Please note that referring to a beast as humpbacked is in no way derogatory or discriminating, if said beast is a camel. A horse is a horse, of course, but a camel without a hump is no camel.

My previous reference to humps was "descriptive" and identifying. Hence, you recognized that the reference was to a well known figure that matched the description. Please refer to other posts for similar vernacular (i.e. monochromatic polecat).

Class, if you'll look at smeared white substance on the blackboard, you'll notice I did not forsake you. I left clear instruction that you were supposed to perform self-guided study AND check each other's worksheets. Unfortunately, it seems someone with an unmentionable hump stood too closely the blackboard and (supposedly) unintentionally obliterated my instructions.

As a make up assignment, I'd like each of you to perform an exercise in synonyms. Please provide a list of animals by their proper names and list at least one other commonly used name to refer to the same animal.

For example:
Camel - humpbacked beast
Skunk - polecat

You may not use the these examples. I will offer extra credit for the student providing the most names an additional credit for creativity and entertainment value.

Parrothead- birdbrain
Heff(er) - female cow with no calves

Hopefully this completes the assignment, and for extra credit i have synonyms for these:

Davy Crockett- Swiss cheese (history joke)
Noushbag- bag of hot air
Wig- what is under Davy's coonskin cap
Whiplash- what you get when you dont do the professor's work
General Jackson- Michael Jackson's army brother
Hammer_(for a)Tool- what you beat a guy who is controlled by his girlfriend/wife with
And lastly- BigC- more commonly known as the Pacific Ocean

Being descriptive and identifying doesnt take away the pejorative nature in reference to the term. That is one reason this is showing how webster is better than oxford by the pejorative nature in reference to beast. Just having fun PH. :)

Dear PARROT, because you haven't been around much I have FORCED myself to study under DOUGHENS. It was hard at first but now I am getting use to him. Ehhhh he's not to bad.

Sorry your lush drinking ways have interfered with your teaching, you are soo good when sober. The best. Maybe you will be back someday.

Ok my homework DOUGHENS.

Would LAME DUCK be a pejorative, as in lame president as in lame democrats. What grade did I get, PARROT would always give me an A.

YOU ARE TURNING OUT TO BE A LOVELY TEACHER, I LIKE YOU SO MUCH.

I AM NOT A SUCK UP. BULLY.

Davy,

Thanks for the support Davy....Your enthusiasm for learning is unmatched in Dogfight....

.....I will say that Parrothead has taught you VERY VERY well. I spoke with PH (joking) the other day because I was shocked to hear about your "B" and he said the reason you got your "B" last time was that you failed to show up for the final. He came to me distraught sad and crying because you were his favorite pupil...I told Parrot "Oh Parrot, dont be upset PLEASE calm down...well lets figure this Davy thing out...okay Parrot...have Davy take my class and come early. Then Parrot, just write on the board the subject matter of the final from the previous class and we will see if he does well enough for an "A" since your unable to teach this coming semester."....So Davy....I went into class and I just could not read Parrotheads "chicken scratch"....or is it "parrothead scratch"  :) ... this sure did make this Camel scratch his head... :silly: So I "erased the board" (had to cause no one, TRUST me, no one could read PH's writing) and posted on the board the assignment on "pejorative" but other students arrived at the same time and thought this was their first assignment.

I want to apologize for making Parrothead upset for erasing the chalkboard ....that "chicken scratch" was unreadable....

Now onto Davy...ur final..........and the nuance of your response is so multifaceted that I will tell Parrothead to give you an "A"... Being that your favorite team are the "Ducks"...you introduced what the next lesson will be which is on the term "oxymoron". Oxymoron is a "contradiction in terms"....so LAME "DUCK" (being your an "Anaheim Duck" fan and would never call ur team "lame") yet you are referring to them as LAME. Another aspect of your answer that is fascinating is that people who are "lame" as in "crippled" can be looked at with extreme compassion and empathy....it can also be pejorative at the same time...

In this case I have extreme compassion and empathy for the current President and Democrats so therefore referring to them as lame is not pejorative but can be depending on if "lame" is (the third lesson) a "figure of speech" or lame in the "literal sense" which can sometimes be from the outside or can be self inflicted.

2014 will be a wonderful year for some change in the US Senate....I cant wait....Davy...To match the wonderful "A" grade on your test...I will leave you with this statement

Tripling the debt in 6 years from what was earlier combined is LAME and causes people in the USA to be LAME .....what a shame. I have faith....this "lameness" will be healed and reversed.

I AM NOT A SUCK UP

DOUGHENS, please simplify your answer, I'm not as smart as you. PARROT realized right away that I wasn't to smart. His answers were simple and to the point. Your answer tells me that you are extremely intelligent and knowledgable. I think you will make a excellent teacher and I'm now excited to learn under you.

"PARROT realized right away that I wasn't to smart."

WOW....Parrot REALLY didnt have faith in your abilities in class?....IM SHOCKED!!! Also..it was Parrothead that told me you got a "B" before he left.....maybe that is why./....he was scared about your response to your "B"..Trust me...I spoke with Parrot and everything is worked out and this lesson on "pejorative" is your final in "Parrots" class.

Unlike Parrot, I see EXTREME intelligence by you Davy...Your nuanced answer/example to "pejorative" was exceptional. you see....One must define what is meant by "Duck" and one must define what is meant by "lame" and both in their proper context as well.

Davy.....so the best answer to your question (which the question shows AAAAA for DAVY!!!!!) is it can be depending on ones view/opinion of the object in reference (President) to lame and how one looks at lame....let alone Duck (fan of the team vs. Presidential term).

birdbrain = Parrothead....can be pejorative depending on ones view of the object Parrothead and whether its in a "literal sense" or a "figurative sense".....literal sense is not pejorative......figurative sense it would be pejorative.....Due to this ambiguity and the great respect I have for Parrothead I will refrain from using "birdbrain" in reference to Parrothead....I use Parrot brain....Hes smart. VERY smart. and desreves NO belittling whatsoever literal or implied.

I'm already confused.i thought PARROT gave me an A. This is a great lesson on what drinking can do to you, making mistakes on grading. I'm very hurt. Wait until I tell Mrs. CROCKETT. She told me I was getting an A also and she ought to know, they had pleanty of parent/teacher conferences.

I hope this doesn't effect my chances on getting into more advanced classes where your past grades are a deciding factor. As much as I love my dear PARROT I will have to slap a big lawsuit on him.

MAYBE IT WAS ALL JUST A BIG MISTAKE AND CAN BE CORRECTED.

Davy. Thats why i said i got this all worked out. I spoke with parrothead and we both decided that he would post the final on chalk board of my class. The board with the final was "parro.... No chicken scratch". This put me in a bind so i did a lesson on " pejorative". Your final was amazing davy and it wasnt because you. "Sucked up" cause you didnt. Parrothead trained you well. Your answer in reference to "lame duck" was "A" work.

Parrothead class? GRADE CHANGED FROM B to A due to A+ on FINAL

Welcome Davy to the "advanced dogfight english class 534 "nuanced english".

Please refrain from a lawsuit on parrothead. Remember he and i worked this all out. :). "A" my friend.

Dear PARROT, GARY THE PINK OR DOUGHENS or whoever the teacher is for crying out loud. I have a very perplexing question that has been haunting me for years.

Several times I have seen in a paragraph a COMA with a dot on top of it.

Why would a coma have a dot above it. Is it a special coma. What would make it be so special.

you three are so very smart, intelligent and sauve that I know you will have the answer.

I am not a suck up

Hi Davy. I will attempt to explain to you the use of a semicolon; they can be tricky and confusing. Think of a semicolon as a straw that SUCKS UP two sentences into one! Suck up is a phrase I know you can define; it describes you very well.
