A word of warning, however: if there is any flaming, there will be a problem.
Considering the fact that most conversations on politics are actually arguments, I simply wouldn't reccomend it.
Luna, I've got to disagree here. An argument isn't always a bad thing. We can't agree on everything, that's why there are elections in the first place. That's why we need a government.
Aces, I agree with some of what you say about patriotism, but I think you're exaggerating how good the US is. We're in pointless wars in the Middle East -Okay, that's not true. It has political benefits for whoever's in office - we back dictators, and our schools are degrading. Then again, we do have freedom of speech - unless you're significantly younger or older than the person you're talking to. Freedom of assembly? The Occupy movement was allowed to exist, right? There's the famous "Pepper Spray" incident, they were kicked out of a public camping grounds. Freedom of expression? Nope. Occupy again.
My main beef is the wars for oil, though. We're dealing with human lives, there. If there was something worth fighting for, then fine. War is necessary, sometimes. Fighting for a tiny scrap of oil is pointless. "What? Tiny? The middle east controls our oil supply! Everyone knows that they produce most of our oil!" No, they don't. That's a complete lie. Our number one importer of oil? Try us. That's not even importing! The second biggest supplier must be over there, though, right? They must not like us. Well.... It's true that a large portion of our oil comes from the ridiculously hostile nation of.... Canada? Damn. Numero tres? Mexico. Number four? Venezuela. "Ha! I was right! They hate us!" Well, they represent a bit over 10% of our oil supply, while we represent over 50% of their export. That'd wreck them. Now, the middle east - all of it - represent.... "45%! Right?!?!" Nope. Around the same as our friends to the south. They supply 11% of our oil. "Well, that's still a lot, right? I mean, 11% isn't exactly peanuts." That's correct, peanuts have some real value. 11% is around what we lost when Katrina hit. Unless you were in it's path, I don't feel sorry at all for the $1.50 extra you payed over a couple months.
I have a question. Better president: Obama or Bush? Just a question, don't take it as hostility.
