Thats Cool Whip, As usual..
Foust, the first year i lived in AZ people would say "wait till July when the monsoons come" I remember thinking "these people think were in freaking India.... Monsoons???" It's a hellofa thing to witness for the first few times. the signs that say " DO NOT ENTER WHEN FLOODED" made me wonder how long they had been up, when the Grand Canyon was just a little babey creek I'd guessed. Flood here in the Heart Of HELL!!! Its dryer then a popcorn FART! the signs must be a bad joke.
There not, its good advise, Heed IT! I wont go into that story other then it involved a search and rescue crew equipt with helicopter, and three weeks of explianing the damage to my truck to a disbelieving insurance adjuster (he wasn't from AZ).nough said.
My first year in the appropriately named Vally Of The Sun was a learning experience. Monsoons do happen in many places on the planet, not just Freakin India lesson one. I was pulling out of the supperstition Springs Mall one afternoon getting on HW 60 to head home for the day, i wanted to make sure the wife and kidds haddn't melted that day. I look south because my eyes wouldnt look any other direction after seeing what my brian couldn't seem to get grasp of.... there was literaly a wall about 1500 ft high, i'm guessing. of brown DIRT! I'm not making this up, ask Foust. I was so imprest by what i saw I pulled over on the onramp and just stared at the amazement of it..... for a minute, i then realised it was coming at me! I was about 10mines from my new home and figured i better get there and let the family know the world was endding its right behind me. could have called but thats really not something that should be handled over the phone.
About half way home I realised I was going 97MPH and getting passed by other paniced noobs of the vally. I also noticed cars and parcked up under the overpasses, i thought Oh no dont give up you have to try!!! come to find out there the old timers who have witnessed this before. under something, anthing is better then not during these late summer monsoons.
about a mile before my Exit I was overtaken by the sand storm, I can't really put into word what that was like, one of those things you have to see to believe, right Foust. That last mile of freeway took me 20 minutes till I was able to exit off. It was like drive braille. from the free way to my home was still another mile or two, amazingly the sand was beginging to ease off a bit and i could accualy see mor then 20ft infront of my truck. of course the rain begain ...... Whip your a cartoon fun, remember the Acme safes anveles and such that cyotee was always useing to catch roadrunner? well if Acme had a rain cloud this was it. from being so dry 10 minute before that the wind had picked up and moved a three inch layer of topsoil up into the heaves to the freaking Amason basin, all within my little ride home.... in an hours time the weather man said later that evening it had dropped 2inches of rain, Welcome to Monsoon Season!!
I Got home and was fortuneate enough to get to the front door with out being washed down my street by the accuring flash flood. I was wondering if the kidds were scared and wanted to go back to Utah..... I got in the house asked the wife where the kidds are, expecting them to be under the beds or in the bath tubs, closets somewher curdled up in the fetal position softy whining.... NO dead wrong.... they were in the backyard running around having a great freaking time..... Until the LIGHTNING hit..... then there were tears and fetal posisions.....
I'm from Utah, born and raised, they have a saying there, "if you dont like the weather, just wait a minute, it will probably change"..... not like AZ not even close.
