Have you ever checked out Crissy Field in San Francisco? It was built as a US army airbase for WW1. It was closed as an airbase in 1936 and was part of the Persidio army base until 1994. Now part of the National Parks Service, the buildings and hangars are intact as they were in the 1920s.

935 Mason Street goes right in front of the hangars so you can use Google Earth street view to get a very close look.
